SANTA FE, NEW MEXICO: Alec Baldwin is set to return to shooting the film 'Rust' after facing involuntary manslaughter charges over the death of Halyna Hutchins, the film's cinematographer in October 2021. Apparently, Baldwin fired a prop gun at her during a rehearsal scene. The charges were filed against Baldwin and Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, the film's armorer by Mary Carmack-Altwies, the New Mexico First Judicial District Attorney. If convicted, both the disgraced actor and the armorer will face five-year jail sentences.

In a press release, Joel Souza, the director who was also injured in the incident said, “Though bittersweet, I am grateful that a brilliant and dedicated new production team joining former cast and crew are committed to completing what Halyna and I started,” and added, “My every effort on this film will be devoted to honoring Halyna’s legacy and making her proud. It is a privilege to see this through on her behalf,” as per the release obtained by E! News on Tuesday, February 14.

When will 'Rust' film shoot resume?

'Rust' film shooting was halted following the death of Hutchins and will now restart its production in the spring, reported Page Six. Matthew Hutchins, the widower of Hutchins' will be joining the western film crew in the role of executive producer. The decision comes after a settlement in October 2022 with Baldwin. The film's cinematography will be taken over by Bianca Cline.

According to the press release, the crew will be joined by Tenet Production Safety's Gary Jensen and Paul Jordan. The two safety officers will be ensuring that there are no "working weapons” or “any form of ammunition” on the film set and the statement read, “Live ammunition is — and always was — prohibited on set.”

Quinn Emanuel law firm's Luke Nikas, the attorney for the 64-year-old actor previously stated that the charges against Baldwin are the result of “a terrible miscarriage” of justice. He said, “Mr. Baldwin had no reason to believe there was a live bullet in the gun — or anywhere on the movie set. He relied on the professionals with whom he worked, who assured him the gun did not have live rounds.” Baldwin is set to fight the charges as his attorney said, “We will fight these charges, and we will win.”

'That film should be scrapped'

As Baldwin is ready to resume the shooting of 'Rust,' netizens are furious at the disgraced actor's decision to return while he is facing involuntary manslaughter charges. One Twitter user wrote, "Hollywood privilege. Where you can kill someone and finish filming even while facing charges," and another wrote, "Got to finish filming before he goes to prison," while someone opined, "They should 100% scrap the cursed film."

"I can't imagine anyone will go watch this movie now. Especially with him in the lead. He pulled the trigger (oh wait...he said he didn't so never mind)," a user commented and another remarked, "Unreal. Shameless. #AlecBaldwin"

"No, this film should have been canceled," a user opined while another said, "Yeah, got a few more scenes to shoot! That film should be scrapped in respect for the dead woman!"

"I think this is terrible. The movie should be scrapped completely. That poor family. This is so tone-deaf," wrote someone and a user tweeted, "Can’t wait to still not see this movie," while another commented, "Put him in jail! Really? Scrap this movie.. just hurtful to her family and kids. No."
