Prince William, 37, is preparing to take the throne amid the coronavirus pandemic that has gripped the world, according to reports.

The Queen, 93, and her son, Prince Charles, 71, are facing isolation given the British Health Secretary, Matt Hancock's announcement that citizens aged 70 and above will be forced to stay at home for a period of time 'within the coming weeks'.

This would mean that the Queen, Prince Philip, 98, Prince Charles, Camilla Parker, 72, and other senior royals may have to restrict going outdoors for a while. The coronavirus or COVID-19 is more threatening and deadly to people over the age of 70 and to those with health issues.

Given this, Prince William could become the regent, New Idea reports. It has also been reported that the Queen has had her schedule in order to adapt to and deal with the pandemic. As per a statement from the royal family, "As a sensible precaution and for practical reasons in the current circumstances, changes are being made to the Queen‘s diary commitments in the coming weeks."

"In consultation with the Medical Household and Government, Her Majesty’s forthcoming visits to Cheshire and Camden will be rescheduled. Audiences will continue as usual. Other events will be reviewed on an ongoing basis in line with the appropriate advice," the statement read.

As a response to the coronavirus outbreak, Prince Charles and his wife, Camilla, have postponed their spring tour to the Republic of Cyprus and Jordan. We had previously reported that the Buckingham Palace has been taking a 'sensible approach' in order to deal with the COVID-19 threat as described by officials.

Around two weeks ago, the Queen was seen wearing a pair of gloves as she conducted an official investiture at the palace. The Queen has also decided that it is a matter of 'personal preference' to stop shaking hands.

So far, the number of confirmed cases of the virus in the UK has risen to 1,140, leaving around 21 dead.
