Prince Philip allegedly warned Prince Harry about marrying Meghan Markle: 'One steps out with actresses, one doesn't marry them'
A new report claims that Prince Philip warned Prince Harry against marrying Meghan Markle, reportedly telling him that "one steps out with actresses, one doesn't marry them." The British royal, who recently turned 98, is believed to have made the outspoken remark to his grandson about the former 'Suits' actress when it became clear the couple's whirlwind romance had gone serious.
Philip's alleged comments were reported in The Sunday Times in an article about the so-called 'rift' between Harry and Meghan and Prince William and Kate Middleton.
But Harry ignored the advice and proposed and tied the knot with the Hollywood actress in May last year.
It is also claimed that Prince William gave his younger sibling Harry his own piece of relationship advice before the wedding.
William asked his brother "Are you sure?", shortly before the Duke of Sussex proposed to Meghan in 2017.
Harry and Philip are known to have a very healthy bond, coupled with a strong relationship, and it was just last week that the Sussex's Instagram account wished "Grandpa" a happy birthday.
Philip was also featured in one of the couple's first pictures of baby Archie, alongside the Queen and Meghan's mother Doria Ragland. The Duke was also one of the first people to see baby boy Archie as revealed by the Duchess of Sussex during a brief interview at a photocall.
Meghan said at the time: "We just bumped into the Duke as we were walking by, which was so nice." Philip also reportedly made a surprise appearance at their royal wedding, despite recovering from a hip operation at the time.
News of Philip's initial disapproval of Meghan comes as the Sussexes posted an adorable photograph of Archie in a touching tribute for Father's Day.
In an Instagram post on Sunday, June 16, a tiny Archie could be seen clutching his father's finger with his tiny hand as Harry holds him in a loving embrace. The caption read: "Happy Father's Day! And wishing a very special first Father's Day to The Duke of Sussex."
Prince Harry marked his first Father's Day as a dad and it was expected that he would celebrate privately at home in Windsor. There's no doubt that he and Meghan might have had special plans for the milestone with their son Archie, who is now almost six weeks old.
