Prince Harry has watched ‘The Crown’ unlike William, but will ‘tune out’ when show approaches his era: Royal author
A royal biographer has claimed that Prince Harry has definitely watched ‘The Crown’ but would stop following it when the series starts mining his era. Omid Scobie, who recently released a book about Meghan and Harry, said the 36-year-old had certainly "taken a look" - unlike elder brother Prince William who has no desire" to watch the Netflix original.
Speaking about the latest installment of the show, Scobie said on his podcast, ‘The Heir Pod’: "I know that Prince Harry certainly was aware of the first series. I don't know if he watched the full series but he had certainly taken a look. But I remember speaking to an aide of his who said even if he was to watch the full series he would always tune out the second it got anywhere near his era." According to reports, the fourth season of ‘The Crown’ introduces Lady Diana, Prince William, and Prince Harry in the narrative. It also shows the issues between Prince Charles and Diana, with a source saying it would be "sad" for the two brothers to see.
The fourth season of the acclaimed Netflix drama dropped on November 15 amid various criticisms that it showed “fiction as fact” and claims that it was nothing but “trolling on a Hollywood budget”. MEAWW reported that Prince Charles is not a fan of the show -- which depicts the life of Queen Elizabeth II from the 1940s to modern times -- and has no plans to see the latest installment.
Harry has also been branded “disloyal” by a family biographer for taking money from Netflix to produce a variety of shows despite the streaming company "ridiculing" his family in the show. Recalling a two-year-old interview with the Duke of Sussex, Angela Levin told talkRADIO, “When I met Harry at Kensington Palace the first question he asked me was, 'Are you watching The Crown?'. I mumbled and said, 'Are you and the rest of the Royal Family?,' He said, 'Yes, we're all absolutely watching everything but I'm going to insist it stops before it reaches me.'"
But now after stepping down from the senior royal duties, Harry and Meghan both have signed a deal to work with Netflix, which Levin ridiculed. "And he's now actually doing what I think is so disloyal and rude and that is taking money from a company like Netflix that knows exactly that it's going to get its pint of blood out of somebody when it offers a lot of money. When he knows the same company is ridiculing his father, his mother and his grandmother,” the author of ‘Harry: A Biography of a Prince’ added.
An earlier report stated that not just William, but his 72-year-old father is also not a fan of ‘The Crown’ as he said to his friends that he has "never seen" it and has no plans to watch it in the future. A source close to the Prince of Wales said, “His Royal Highness has absolutely no views about it. He has never watched The Crown. I shouldn’t think he knows it’s coming out.” Another insider added that the series that reportedly showcases the life of Queen Elizabeth II from the 1940s to modern times is “drama and entertainment for commercial ends . . . with no regard to the actual people involved who are having their lives hijacked and exploited”. The source stated, “The public shouldn’t be fooled into thinking this is an accurate portrayal. This is trolling with a Hollywood budget.” It has also been said that the Duke of Cambridge believes the Netflix drama painted his parents in a “false, simplistic way”.
