Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Harry reunited last weekend for lunch even as Harry and his wife Meghan Markle prepare to leave the royal family.

The 93-year-old monarch had hosted her grandson for lunch on Sunday, March 1. The lunch was held at Windsor Castle, close to Frogmore Cottage where the couple will be staying as they finish off their last round of royal engagements. It was Harry's first meeting with the Queen since the pair and their young son relocated to Canada, reports People.

Royal sources denied that the meeting had been a top-level summit and revealed that it was more along the lines of a grandson having Sunday lunch with his grandmother.

Earlier in January, the Queen had held a royal family summit with her son Prince Charles and grandson Prince William to work out an arrangement for Harry and Meghan's decision to step down as senior members of the royal family.

Post the summit, the Queen shared a very rare and emotional statement where she stated that she would have preferred to have Meghan and Harry as senior working royals and that she does support them. The statement had read: "Today my family had very constructive discussions on the future of my grandson and his family."

"My family and I are entirely supportive of Harry and Meghan’s desire to create a new life as a young family. Although we would have preferred them to remain full-time working Members of the Royal Family, we respect and understand their wish to live a more independent life while remaining a valued part of my family," the statement continued.

The agreement that the royal family came to will be put into effect on March 31 after which Harry and Meghan will be independent of the royal family. The pair will also be reuniting with Prince William and Kate Middleton for the Commonwealth Day service on March 9. The Queen, Prince Charles and Camilla will also be at the event.
