TAKE A PEEK: Will this dreamy $36m waterfront mansion be Harry and Meghan's new Canadian home?
It seems the Duke and Duchess of Sussex cannot wait to start their new life in Canada just weeks after announcing their royal stepdown. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have reportedly expressed interest in a coveted property in Vancouver as they plan to make the city their new home with baby Archie. The royals are reportedly interested in a stunning waterfront home located in Kitsilano in the Vancouver Westside. And based on the market listing, the property's asking price is a staggering $35.88 million.
According to Daniel Tan Realty, the assessed value of the home has fluctuated in recent years owing to government policies that regulate real estate speculation. In 2019, it was determined at $25.253 million, but it peaked in 2018 at $28.457 million and $27.737 million in 2017 - during a real estate boom cycle.
Meaww got in touch with the realtors to expand on the property's reported royal interest. The 6,900 sq. ft. three-storeyed home sits on a lot size of about 12,300 sq. ft. The property includes six bedrooms, five bathrooms, stunning French windows, manicured private gardens as well as walk-out terraces.
What's more? the property also features a lavish private guest suite on the upper level. While the mansion was first constructed in 1912, there have been several renovations over the years to keep the decor on par with modern-day designs.
One of the highlights of the property is its breathtaking views of Burrard Inlet, the North Shore mountains, as well as downtown Vancouver skyline. Houses along Vancouver’s so-called “Golden Mile” or “Billionaires Row” all enjoy such views from the breathtaking West Coast scenery.
There is an expansive outdoor deck on the rear of the house that is perfectly sized for relaxing or holding an intimate soiree. Meanwhile, a tall hedge and gate out front provide property owners some privacy from the outside world.
This particular property - located at 3019 Point Grey Road, Kitsilano, Vancouver West - is just yards away from lululemon founder Chip Wilson’s waterfront mansion.
“The neighborhood is known as a haven for wealthy people and has a very laid-back atmosphere. I’m sure they would be very happy there, and they would be welcomed with open arms," an estate agent source in Canada told The Sun, while another Vancouver-based property source called the house "a real gem in Kitsilano."
“The area is particularly sought after by super-rich and image-conscious young achievers," they explained. “It’s close to Kitsilano beach, which is a very cool spot that does stuff like beach yoga in the summer."
“But best of all for Harry and Meghan, it’s quiet and locals respect each other and value their privacy," the source added. “They’d fit in very well.”
Following Megxit, there has been a lot of speculation over where the couple will settle down in Canada. It was previously assumed they would pick Toronto, considering Meghan spent six years in the country's largest city to film legal drama TV series 'Suits'.
