Harry and Meghan 'cut off' relations with UK tabloids, don't want to be 'currency for clickbait' any longer
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are going to be cutting off four major UK tabloids, sources suggest.
The couple reportedly sent a letter on Sunday night to the editors of the Mail, The Sun, The Express, and The Mirror that they will no longer "offer themselves up as currency for an economy of clickbait and distortion."
In the letter, they added, "There will be no corroboration and zero engagement." They had also noted that the Sussexes' communications teams in the US and UK would be implementing the new policy, Buzzfeed reports. The pair stepped down as senior royals on March 31.
The couple has cited intense and unfair media scrutiny as one of the reasons for this decision. In the letter, they also shared that Harry and Meghan had insisted that their decision about cutting out the four tabloids was "not in any way a blanket policy for all media."
"This policy is not about avoiding criticism. It’s not about shutting down public conversation or censoring accurate reporting. Media have every right to report on and indeed have an opinion on the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, good or bad. But it can’t be based on a lie," the letter stated.
"It is gravely concerning that an influential slice of the media, over many years, has sought to insulate themselves from taking accountability for what they say or print —even when they know it to be distorted, false, or invasive beyond reason," the letter added.
"When power is enjoyed without responsibility, the trust we all place in this much-needed industry is degraded. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have watched people they know — as well as complete strangers — have their lives completely pulled apart for no good reason, other than the fact that salacious gossip boosts advertising revenue," the letter continued.
We had previously reported that Harry and Meghan were spotted in LA for the first time delivering food to critically ill patients for a non-profit organization. According to charity Project Angel Food, the former royal couple volunteered with them on Easter Sunday.
They also helped the organization in delivering perishable meals to around 20 vulnerable people in the city after they learned that the charity’s drivers were "overloaded" and they need extra people to feed people during the quarantine.
The couple is currently renting an £8 million (about $10 million) mansion near their friend Sir Elton John's home after moving to LA. It is believed that Harry and Meghan moved to LA from Canada in order to avoid paying taxes in two countries.
The pair took a private jet to California along with their son, Archie, before the non-essential travel across borders was suspended due to the outbreak.
A source revealed that the pair have been on the lookout for a permanent place in LA. "The market is dive-bombing at the moment so a permanent move seems some time away," the source shared, The Sun reveals.
The current property they are staying at is said to be 'paparazzi proof' and is 'away from prying eyes'. It features two guarded checkpoints, has a pool, a gym and landscaped gardens.
