Prince Charles' LAST-MINUTE call convinced the Queen to make historic balcony appearance
The Queen made her historic balcony appearance at the close of the Platinum Jubilee weekend celebrations thanks to a last-minute call from Prince Charles. Queen Elizabeth II became the longest-reigning British queen as she celebrated her 70th year as monarch in February. An extraordinary Platinum Jubilee celebration began on Thursday, June 2, to commemorate her decades of service to the United Kingdom and Commonwealth on Sunday, June 5.
The sight of four generations of the Royal Family standing proudly on the Buckingham Palace balcony, with the three successors to the Queen's reign around her, will live on in history. A portrait of Prince Charles to her right, with Prince William and Prince George to her left, has been shown all over the world. The photo was taken at the Platinum Jubilee festivities' spectacular conclusion that may never be repeated in such a high-profile event again. Prince of Wales convinced Her Majesty to make the effort to meet her legions of loving supporters. An insider disclosed to Daily Star: “The Queen only decided that she would go to London about three hours before the balcony appearance. She was not feeling brilliant, but the Prince of Wales had called her and told her she really ought to come if she could. He told her there were so many people desperate to see her and he convinced her to come.”

Were Prince Harry, Meghan Markle REALLY booed at Queen's Platinum Jubilee? Depends on whom you ask
The 96-year-old monarch, who has reigned since 1952, arrived in London from Windsor and was carried away by the ovation, tears welling up in her eyes. The source further added: “The Queen was totally overwhelmed by the number of people waiting to see her – she had tears in her eyes before she stepped out on the balcony.”
The Queen herself admitted: “While I may not have attended every event in person, my heart has been with you all; and I remain committed to serving you to the best of my ability, supported by my family.” The Queen is expected to make fewer personal appearances in the future and will relax at Balmoral after attending the Order of the Garter investiture later on Sunday, June 12, where her cozy house Craigowan Lodge has been provided with mobility aids, including a stair lift.
The insider confessed: “Over time, the Queen will revert to becoming a more virtual Queen with digital appearances and video calls.” She will not participate in the procession or attend the service at St George's Chapel in Windsor later today, where Camilla will be inducted into the 700-year-old order of Knighthood with former Prime Minister Tony Blair and Baroness Amos.
The royal family includes Prince William, Duchess Kate, Prince Charles, Duchess Camilla, and others. Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan made their first public appearance in the United Kingdom since standing down as senior members of the royal family in 2020. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex kept a low profile during the celebration, only being photographed at two events: the Trooping the Colour ceremony and the Service of Thanksgiving at St Paul's Cathedral.
