A White woman has been charged with assaulting a Black child in an attempt to block him from the community pool. The alleged incident reportedly took place last month on July 6.

Heather J Brown, who goes by @hj_everyday on TikTok, posted a video taken by a bystander of the unnamed White woman grabbing her son to block him from entering the community pool. The video has reportedly been viewed almost five million times since it was re-posted on TikTok earlier this week, having initially been taken down due to a reported violation of community guidelines.

In the video filmed by a bystander, Brown can be heard yelling: “He was here yesterday, ma'am, you know who I am.” The White woman can be heard asking the mother a question before the gate opened and she appeared to grab the boy as he tried to get past her. Brown could be heard yelling, “Don’t you put your hands on my son. I will call the police and I will have you arrested for putting your hands on a minor.” Brown could also be heard saying, “Get out of my face, lady! And she's going to jail because she just put her hands on my son.”

Brown reportedly revealed news of the charges five weeks after the altercation with the unidentified woman. Brown said the woman at the pool had been charged with misdemeanor assault on a child under 12. As per a Unilad report, the White woman reportedly attempted to tell cops that Brown had attacked her. Brown said that the officer was “starting to believe her at first based on just the way [they] look”, but she found support in the woman who filmed the video.

The report also said that the bystander who captured the altercation on video told Brown that there had allegedly been issues in the Homeowners Association pool committee with people singling out children “who aren’t White”, with the woman in the clip having reportedly let two White children in ahead of Brown’s kids, who were told they had to wait outside.

As per the Daily Mail, Brown said they went to court on July 30, where the woman had asked for a public defender and said the next court appearance is scheduled for August 20. Per the Daily Dot, following the July 6 incident and the subsequent alleged court proceedings, Brown said the White woman and two other women from the Homeowners Association have “constantly harassed” her landlord, “sending emails, spreading lies” about Brown and her family.

Pool Karens” — as the internet keeps dubbing the perpetrators of incidents like these — have been on the rise. Back in June, a popular Sacramento hotel witnessed an abhorrent display of bigotry when a group of White women expressed their distaste when a Black queer woman kissed her partner at the poolside. Allegedly, the group of White straight women in a cabana demanded that a queer Black woman stops kissing her girlfriend in the pool because “there were children present.”

Luckily, the hotel decided to get rid of the ones who made the complaint. The group of White women could be seen being escorted away from the pool area by hotel security as hotel guests chanted “Shame” at them.
