Piers Morgan calls Meghan 'shameless piece of work' who made Harry 'ditch' family: 'Surprised it took her so long'
English broadcaster, journalist, writer, and television personality Piers Morgan, the co-presenter of ‘Good Morning Britain’ went on a lengthy rant about Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, on Twitter, on January 18.
In reference to a Daily Mail report titled, ‘Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will LOSE HRH titles and will REPAY £2.4million of public cash spent on their Frogmore Cottage home’, Morgan wrote on Twitter: “BREAKING: The Queen’s told Megan/Harry to sling their part-time royal hook. Well done, Your Majesty - right decision.”
Frogmore Cottage, where Prince Harry and Meghan Markle moved into in April 2019, just weeks before the birth of Archie Mountbatten-Windsor, while is technically the property of the crown, but because it’s listed as a historic property, £2.4 million ($3.1 million) of the renovation costs were covered by taxpayers. Prince Charles, however, reportedly provided the money for the “fixtures and fittings.”
Morgan tweeted a photo of the Sussexes, and wrote about Markle, “Only surprised it took her so long to get Harry to ditch his family, the Monarchy, the military and his country. What a piece of work.” Following this, he tweeted a photo of the Queen and the Sussexes and captioned it, “Bottom line: Meghan/Harry wanted to have their cake & eat it, but the Queen just took the cake back to the royal kitchens.”
When ITV News’ “royal editor” Chris Ship tweeted, “Former Head of the Navy, Lord West on #HarryandMeghan: 'The whole situation is extremely sad, and I think it is unfortunate, after his splendid service in the military, that he will now no longer be involved with the military in the UK',” Morgan quoted the tweet and said, “Staggering that Harry would turn his back on the military like this.”
Ship responded to Morgan’s tweet and said, “Harry was passed the position of Captain-General of the Royal Marines from his grandfather, Prince Philip, who had held it from 1953 to 2017,” to which Morgan responded with, “Philip must be devastated.”
Morgan’s rant ended with, “On a positive note, this spells the death on arrival of Meghan & Harry’s plan for a ‘progressive’ new Monarchy. So they thankfully won’t be ‘woking’ the Windsors after all.”
Wes Streeting, Ilford North’s Labour Member of Parliament, called Morgan racist on Twitter for his rant. He wrote: “This is shameful on so many levels. The treatment of Meghan at the hands of sections of the media hasn’t just been ‘negative’ or ‘bad’ - it has been downright racist. That’s what should bring shame on our country, not so-called ‘Megxit’.”
Morgan responded to the allegation with, “Oh pipe down, you virtue-signaling berk. Your disingenuous race-baiting claims are what’s shameful. It’s got nothing to with racism & everything to do with Meghan Markle being a ruthless, social climbing, fame-obsessed piece of work who’s now forced Harry from his country.”
The 'Good Morning Britain' presenter has always been critical of Meghan. In his rant, he also listed the number of people Meghan had destroyed ties with. "People say I'm too critical of Meghan Markle - but she ditched her family, ditched her Dad, ditched most of her old friends, split Harry from William & has now split him from the Royal Family. I rest my case," he wrote.
