Meghan Markle blasted by Piers Morgan for going MIA during Trump's visit but making an appearance at Trooping the Colour
'Good Morning Britain' host Piers Morgan has hit out at Meghan Markle for not attending royal events during US President Donald Trump’s UK visit citing maternity leave but making an appearance at the Trooping of the Colour ceremony on Saturday, terming her behavior “unacceptable”.
The Duchess of Sussex has been on maternity leave ever since giving birth to son Archie on May 6 and Morgan believes that her absence at royal events where Trump was presence had nothing to do with her having given birth.
Writing in his Daily Mail column, Morgan termed Meghan's behavior “suspicious” after she turned up at the Queen's birthday event but was a no-show during US President Donald Trump’s state visit last week.
Morgan wrote, “I don’t think her absence from Trump’s visit had anything to do with her baby, and everything to do with her dislike of her President. And that, I’m afraid, is unacceptable."
He continued writing against the Duchess, “So, I’m sorry, but bunking off at home is simply not an option for ANY senior member of the Royal Family. And we all know why she did it – she hates Trump with a passion, and views him, as she once said on TV, as a ‘divisive misogynist’.”
Morgan further added in his column that Meghan, who is the only American among the royals, “should have been there to greet the President and his family on behalf of her fellow Americans”. He added, "By staying at home, then turning up all bright and cheerful the moment Trump left, she displayed a woefully selfish disregard for royal duty."
However, Morgan's criticism of Meghan was met with mixed reactions on Twitter, especially after he shared a link to his column with his 6.67 million followers. One person said: "She just gave birth. Who the heck are you to tell someone with a newborn where they have to go?"
Another defended Meghan and said: “Seriously??? She can’t stand the idiot and I applaud her for staying away from him. She just had a child and has every right to stay home with the baby as opposed to being two-faced and acting like he’s someone who deserves her attention/respect. Who the hell are you to judge?”
The TV personality's answer to all supporters of the Duchess of Sussex was, "The Royals have a duty to meet & greet world leaders, however much they personally dislike them. Meghan needs to understand that's part of her life now, in return for all the palaces & servants.”
