Piers Morgan claims that Queen Elizabeth II wouldn't be too happy about Meghan Markle's extravagant and lavish baby shower which took place in New York, and which reportedly cost around $500,000.

Meghan is pregnant with Prince Harry's baby and is due in April; the Duchess of Sussex was seen in NYC celebrating her baby shower with her many friends.

Morgan shared his thoughts with DailyMailTV. In response to a question about how the Queen would react to Meghan's baby shower, he shared that the lavish ceremony "would not play well" and would also seem "ostentatious".

"I think she's going to be a little bit concerned about this and I'll say why. We don't really have baby showers in Britain. The concept of a very extravagant party with a load of famous people turning up to celebrate the arrival of a baby in a couple of months is not something we would do so the Queen would be like, 'What is this?' to start with."

Meghan's trip to New York was a pretty expensive affair and included a stay of at least two nights at the Mark Hotel in a $75,000-per-night penthouse, a dinner at expensive The Polo Bar, as well as $14,000 for her protection.

It also included thousands of dollars in gifts. Amal Clooney reportedly paid around $125,000 for a private jet which flew Meghan home. It is also reported that she arrived in New York via private jet putting her round trip travel cost at a quarter of a million dollars.

Morgan further added, "It doesn't matter whether she paid for anything" and that the entire thing was complimentary. He shared "it's all about perception." Piers said, "Secondly, I think, the sheer scale of the opulence of all this. The key thing about the royals is to be understated. We all know that they're royal, that they're very wealthy. But the absolutely number one rule is don't rub the British people's noses in your wealth."

"The British people pay the salaries of the royal family so they feel like they have a vested interest," he added. Morgan was also asked whether he thought the Duchess of Sussex "should be held under so much scrutiny" to which he replied, "Well, I think the British royal family are some of the biggest stars in the world and I think if you deliberately enter that family by marrying a prince, with that you have to accept a lot of global media attention."

"Meghan Markle's not naïve about the media, she's been a television star in America. She knows about all this. What surprises me is George Clooney, her friend had issued a public appeal for the media to leave Meghan Markle alone, what's the next thing she does? She gets on a plane to the middle of New York and throws a very lavish, flash, celebrity-fueled baby shower party and almost invites the world's media to come and pay attention to her," he continued.

One of Meghan's closest friends Serena Williams gave fans a glimpse into the luxury penthouse which she had reportedly booked. The tennis star shared a couple of snaps from the suite's huge bathroom and captioned the pictures, "Even on relaxing day I often need to remind myself I am beautiful and strong. I seriously am grateful for these pants. I needed them today."
