Peter Fonda, veteran actor and 'Easy Rider' star, dies aged 79 after respiratory failure due to lung cancer
Veteran actor Peter Fonda - Henry Fonda's son and Jane Fonda's young brother - died after respiratory failure due to lung cancer August 16, Friday at 11.05 a.m. in Los Angeles. The actor was 79 years old. The news of his passing was confirmed by his family who confirmed the official cause of death was "respiratory failure due to lung cancer."
According to a report by People, Peter's family said, "It is with deep sorrow that we share the news that Peter Fonda has passed away. [Peter] passed away peacefully on Friday morning, August 16 at 11:05 a.m. at his home in Los Angeles surrounded by family. The official cause of death was respiratory failure due to lung cancer."
The family further added, "In one of the saddest moments of our lives, we are not able to find the appropriate words to express the pain in our hearts. As we grieve, we ask that you respect our privacy." They also requested fans of Peter to celebrate the actor's life even as they grieved the loss and said, "And, while we mourn the loss of this sweet and gracious man, we also wish for all to celebrate his indomitable spirit and love of life. In honor of Peter, please raise a glass to freedom."
According to a report in Variety, Peter's sister Jane spoke about his passing and said, "I am very sad. He was my sweet-hearted baby brother. The talker of the family. I have had beautiful alone time with him these last days. He went out laughing."
The actor was most popular for his role as Wyatt in the 1969 film 'Easy Rider' which the actor co-wrote as well as produced. Peter was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay for 'Easy Rider' and later was also nominated for Academy Award for Best Actor for 'Ulee's Gold', the 1997 film.
Reportedly, Peter had planned a concert and screening of 'Easy Rider' in September on the occasion of its 40th anniversary which was on July 14.
