'Pay attention to your marriage': Kamala Harris reveals wise words she shared with her stepson Cole Emhoff
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Vice President Kamala Harris had some meaningful words for her stepson Cole Emhoff.
In an interview with People, the first woman VP shared more on the wedding. “It meant so much for so many reasons,” Harris began. “It was so wonderful that the kids asked me to do it. For us, we think of marriage as being not just between these two people, but the coming together of families. So it was very much with that spirit that we all participated," she added.
‘Momala’ blesses her stepson Cole and Greenley Littlejohn's union
Called ‘Momala’ by her family, the proud wife also talked about her husband of nine years, Douglas Emhoff.
“I love my husband. I love our marriage. I want for those two [Cole and Greenley] to have a loving marriage where they are best friends and they know that it’s not just them against the world, that our family supports them. That the community of people that came together at the wedding supports [them],” said the 59-year-old.
When asked about what advice she gave his stepson on marriage, Kamala said, "There were a couple of pieces.”
"One of them was, 'Pay attention to your marriage. Pay attention to it and be purposeful and intentional about nurturing it,'" she added.
She continued, “I gave them a piece of advice, which is that at the end of every day, find some way to check in, no matter how tired you are or how many miles apart you may be, even if it’s just at the end of the day, and say ‘I love you.’”
Douglas Harris on Kamala's dedication towards family
Kamala herself practices the wisdom she shared with her husband. Douglas too lauded his wife’s qualities as he said, “She’s an amazing wife, loving to me.”
Emhoff, who is part of the Georgetown Law faculty team, continued, “She focuses on me as much as I focus on her. Maybe I’m a little more public about it."
"Behind the scenes, she’s just a wonderful, caring, loving wife and great mom, auntie, friend. She loves to laugh, which is a good thing. She loves to cook, she loves music. And so she’s just someone who’s a great partner in every sense of the word,” he added.
Kamala's stepdaughter, Ella, is a model, artist, and fashion designer. The artist graduated in May 2021 from the esteemed Parsons School of Design in New York City, reports MEAWW.
She specializes in clothing and textiles and began her career with a limited-edition knitwear line with Batsheva Hay in the spring of 2021.
