Fox's hit family drama series from the 90s 'Party of Five' is returning with a reboot series, which is premiering on Freeform on January 8. Amy Lippman has reprised her role as the creator in the reboot series, but this time around, it deals with a new set of relevant issues.

The official trailer for the 'Party of Five' reboot series was released by Freeform on December 19. The one-minute-long video introduces us to the members of the Acosta family and their struggle for survival.

While the original centered around the lives of the Salingers' siblings following the death of their parents in a car crash, the reboot series focuses on serious issues such as politics, deportation and immigration.

The Acosta siblings encounter difficulties when their parents Javier (Bruno Bichir) and Gloria (Urrejola) get arrested by immigration and Customs Enforcement officers.

The 'Party of Five' reboot series comes across as emotional throughout the trailer including compelling scenes, such as the children visiting their parents in the prison and telling the judge how all they ever wanted was for their parents to be proud of them.

In an interview with Northwest Arkansas Entertainment magazine, talking about creating the reboot series as a non-immigrant and the challenges it presented, Lippman said, "That insecurity, I don't know it".

"Being somewhat militant about wanting to tell stories from my community and my perspective, I sometimes see reboots as a way to perpetuate a narrative that I am not interested in," shared Mary Angelica Molina, a writer hired to work on the upcoming series.

As far as the representation of the lead characters is concerned, viewers will observe subtle resemblances between the original and new cast.

While Lucia (Emily Tosta) displays passion similar to Julia, Beto (Niko Guardado) reminds you of Bailey. The rest of the siblings like in the original will turn care-takers for baby Rafael after the parents get deported.

Episode 1 of the 'Party of Five' reboot series will premiere on Freeform on January 8.
