Ingrid Conley-Abrams: NYC school's woke librarian's 'hate speech' has parents fearing children's safety
MANHATTAN, NEW YORK CITY: Parents of the Columbia Grammar & Preparatory School recently expressed their displeasure about elementary school librarian, Ingrid Conley-Abrams. The 43-year-old librarian had earlier been suspended from Twitter for an old tweet that read, "Burn White Straight Male Librarianship to the Ground." Parents have expressed fear their children will be negatively impacted.
Conley-Abrams' brief period of suspension from the micro-blogging site as well as her recent remarks have not gone down well with parents. She had written the tweet in 2015, which was recently reported as hate speech.

Several parents of the prep school have raised concerns over the safety of their wards under the guidance of Conley-Abrams who, in addition to her role as librarian, also frequently teaches students inside the classrooms. According to the New York Post, one parent has expressed her concern over the safety of her son. "How can I feel comfortable sending my white nine-year-old son into her library or classroom? What if my son wants to be a librarian? How safe and nurtured are my kids going to be by this person?" she said.
Furthermore, parents have said that the librarian's words pose serious dangers to the safety of students in the school. One parent questioned what steps would the school take if a student had made similar remarks, "If a student posted that they want to burn down or shoot up a library they would be expelled," the parent said. Parents are also livid about Conley-Abrams' beliefs on gender, that "gender is fake" were unsuitable for their children. The librarian's bio on the micro-blogging site also featured this view.
One mother revealed that the parents pay a yearly fee of almost $60,000. She questions Conley-Abrams' intentions, saying, "She wants to keep students from matriculating in the Ivy League. Are parents aware this is what they are paying almost $60,000 a year for?" This comes after a tweet from 2020 surfaced which reads, "Sadly, the students at my school only go on to Ivy League colleges so I’ve truly failed them with my queer, free-wheeling godless radical hotbed of a library."
Conley-Abrams tweeted immediately after her account was reinstated on August 15. She wrote, "White cishet male librarians, I’m sorry. You did it. You made the bad one go away. But I’m back + love white guy librarians more than ever! Thanks for everything you do!"
Another parent voiced her concern over the "trendy books" endorsed by the woke librarian. Notably, these were books that discussed issues of gender identity, racism and other sensitive issues. "People like Ingrid in the schools are so self-important. They think their way is the only way... There’s no questioning of it and no debate. It’s terrifying,” she said.
