'Lame ass reboot': Fans miffed as Pantera announces reunion tour after 20 YEARS without Zakk Wylde
The heavy metal band Pantera, hailing from Arlington, Texas, is reuniting after 20 years for a long-awaited tour in 2023. According to reports, the band has signed with Artist Group International for the upcoming North America tour, with agents Dennis Arfa and Peter Pappalardo behind the project. To this day, the best line-up of the group is known to be the Abbott brothers, drummer Vinnie Paul and guitarist Dimebag Darrell, along with singer Phil Anselmo and bassist Rex Brown.
Billboard announced the band's reunion on Wednesday, July 13. Pappalardo said, "We are thrilled to be working with such an iconic band and bringing their music back to the fans." Managed by Scott McGhee of 1 Degree Music Entertainment, the band broke out with their 5th studio album titled 'Cowboys from Hell', with Phil Anselmo. Their next big project came in 1992, titled 'Vulgar Display of Power'. The sobriety of the tracks is what got them their mainstream popularity, and Pantera ended up becoming one of the most influential bands in heavy metal history. Their 1994 album 'Far Beyond Driven' debuted at No 1 on the Billboard 200 and ended up becoming their most successful album. Their most recent album was 'Reinventing the Steel', released in 2000.

The surviving members of the band will be reuniting for the highly-anticipated tour. However, fans are claiming that Pantera will never be the same following the death of the Abbott brothers, and the fact that guitarist Zakk Wylde will not be joining the list. The news was confirmed by Anselmo last year when he told podcaster Paolo Baron that the rumored comeback with Wylde will not be happening. Dimebag Darrell was murdered in 2004 while performing on stage with the band Damageplan in Columbus, Ohio. Vinnie passed away in 2018 from natural causes and heart disease. Some fans have expressed their discomfort in a reunion without the brothers.
Fans react to Pantera's reunion tour
One user wrote on Twitter, "Cash grab alert. It’s like Van Halen touring without the Van Halen brothers. Dime was the show. I’d be willing to bet that they aren’t using Zakk Wylde because they don’t wanna pay him 25% - they’d rather use unknowns and pay ‘em like the help." Another user said, "When I saw the headline my first thought was “Well, this isn’t going to go well UNLESS they have someone like Zack Wylde playing guitar.” THEN I read the article and that was immediately shot down. I have to imagine this will end up in court with the Abbott family somehow."

I have to imagine this will end up in court with the Abbott family somehow.
However, some Pantera fans hope for the band to do it the right way. One said, "Let’s be honest, Pantera was Dime and Vinny, they should at least like be a “cover band” or something of the sort, it’s a weird situation, maybe tour under the name “stronger than all” or something of the sort, I hope they do this the right way." Another claimed, "No… they’re not #Pantera WAS Dime and Vinnie… and they’d be rolling in their graves if they knew that Phil was using the name Pantera for this obvious money grab tribute act…"

One user wrote, "How if half the members are dead. You know, the half that started the band. This is just a Down tour relabeled Pantera." Another angry fan lashed out at the band for including Anselmo and tweeted, "Dime and Vinnie were, and always will be, Pantera. This watered down foolaide version is an insult to the band's legacy. Dime and Vinnie vowed to never perform with Anselmo again for the lame bs he started. For him to profit from their legacy is f*ked. Lame ass reboot."
