'Pamela, A Love Story': Pamela Anderson reveals how she landed her first gig at Playboy in docu
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Looks like January is ending quite interestingly, especially after the release of Pamela Anderson's documentary, 'Pamela, A Love Story'. The documentary traces her life in her own words, rather than how the media and pop culture portrayed her due to her looks, her dating life and eventually, her stolen sex tape.
Directed by Emmy-nominated Ryan White, the documentary helped Anderson talk about her life, work and personal experiences, including growing up, becoming famous (particularly through 'Baywatch'), scandals and her family.

How did Pamela Anderson get a call from Playboy?
In the documentary, Anderson shared the story of how she landed a gig at Playboy. At the age of 22, she was spotted on a Jumbotron while wearing a Labatt's Beer T-shirt at a British Columbia Lions football game in 1989. What was crazy was that initially, she had not wanted to go see the game and only went because her girlfriends, who worked for the brewing company, convinced her to go. Even though all her friends were wearing that same t-shirt, the company noticed her at the game and hired her as their spokesmodel. Soon after, Anderson received a call to try out for Playboy, and she ended up being the cover girl for the magazine's October 1989 issue.
Pamela Anderson’s mother convinced her to do Playboy
Soon after the 1989 cover, the 50-year-old actress gained a reputation. She then relocated to Los Angeles to further her modeling career, and although she first had reservations about being in barely clothed photoshoots for the publication, her mother, Carol, pushed her to do so. “My first reaction was no and I talked to mother and she said, ‘Why not? Get out of this small town, go to Los Angeles. How exciting,’" Anderson said.
“I was painfully shy as a child. As a young girl, Playboy empowered me. It really saved my life,” Anderson said in the documentary. “I felt very trapped inside and needed to free myself. It was a breakthrough for me," she added.
Playboy went on to become a huge part of Anderson's life. Eventually, they asked her to become a playmate and started acting like her agent. It was through Playboy that she landed her first acting gig in 'Baywatch'. From there on, Anderson went on to become to be known as the "most famous blonde on the planet"
'Pamela, A Love Story' is now streaming on Netflix.
