Olivia Wilde slams Jason Sudeikis for 'aggressively' serving her custody papers ON STAGE at CinemaCon
Olivia Wilde claims Jason Sudeikis constantly seeks out opportunities to belittle and "threaten" her. Wilde, 38, believes Sudeikis, 46, was purposefully humiliating her after getting court papers from a process server when she was in the middle of a public presentation.
In April, when Wilde was speaking on stage at CinemaCon in Las Vegas she was handed a manila envelope. She opened it up in front of the audience thinking it was a script, but when she understood what it was, she froze. They turned out to be legal documents that Sudeikis provided, requesting that a judge hear their custody dispute in New York. Then Wilde filed her own court documents in Los Angeles, labeling Sudeikis a liar because the kids reside in California and not New York.

Wilde alleges that Sudeikis adopted "outrageous legal tactics," according to fresh court records obtained by the Daily Mail on August 10, Wednesday. Wilde, 38, claimed in the lawsuit that Jason's actions "were clearly intended to threaten me and catch me off guard. He could have served me discreetly, but instead he chose to serve me in the most aggressive manner possible."
The 'Booksmart' director added that Sudeikis was trying to purposely expose their private affairs to the public in a way that is unfair to their two kids, Otis, 8, and Daisy, 5. "The fact that Jason would embarrass me professionally and put our personal conflict on public display in this manner is extremely contrary to our children's best interests," Wilde claimed.
Wilde added, "Since Jason has made it clear that we will not be able to work this out for our children's sake outside of the court system, I filed a petition for custody in Los Angeles." Notably, the 'Ted Lasso' actor served Wilde with court papers pertaining to child custody as she was speaking on stage in front of close to 4,000 attendees at CinemaCon.
Wilde was humiliated and perplexed, Page Six reported at the time. "Olivia was confused when she was handed the envelope, and she was even more confused when she opened it," the source said.
"It seemed unthinkable to her, and it took a moment to set in," the source continued. "But as mortifying as it was, she did not want to give a reaction." A Sudeikis-related source, however, claimed to Page Six exclusively that the actor "had no prior knowledge of the time or place that the envelope would have been delivered... and he would never condone [Wilde] being served in such an inappropriate manner."
When Sudeikis and Wilde couldn't agree on a permanent city to raise their children in, the actor opted to fight for custody. The two had been co-parenting their children since calling off their engagement and splitting up in 2020.
In court documents, Wilde claims that the couple made the decision to register their kids in a LA school for the upcoming academic year because Sudeikis was scheduled to film the last season of 'Ted Lasso' in London.
"Recently, however, Jason decided that he wanted to go to New York for the next year while he is not working, and wanted the children to be with him there during this time off," the actress stated. "When I did not agree, since the children have not lived in New York for several years, Jason filed these papers," she added.
In a declaration to the court, Sudeikis responded, claiming that their Brooklyn house has always been the family's primary residence and that Wilde is deceiving the court by asserting that their children dwell in Los Angeles. Sudeikis stated in the filing, "For better or worse, I am a New Yorker," adding that it was best for their children to grow up in Brooklyn.
Sudeikis continued that although he was hesitant to take legal action against Wilde, he was concerned that she would take their children away from him after she allegedly threatened to only let him see them on weekends and vacations if he didn't live permanently in LA and that she also allegedly had plans to move to London, where her boyfriend, Harry Styles, resides.
Moreover, according to Sudeikis, Wilde was meant to receive service of the legal papers at a hotel or an airport. But after numerous unsuccessful attempts, she was found at the gathering owing to a tweet, and the process server gave her the private envelope there.
"I understand that the process server had only done her job; however, I deeply regret what happened. Olivia's talk was an important event for Olivia, both professionally and personally, and I am very, very sorry that the incident marred her special moment," Sudeikis stated.
