Olivia Newton-John's 'No. 1 fan' buys her iconic 'Grease' jacket for $243,200, only to gift it to her

An anonymous man, who calls himself Olivia Newton John's No. 1 fan, requested her to put the leather jacket on display in her cancer center.

Olivia Newton-John's black leather jacket from the movie 'Grease' was sold for around $243,200 last month at a charity auction.

However, the buyer of the jacket who calls himself her No. 1 fan had another idea. In a video shared on Facebook by Julien's Auctions, the anonymous buyer said, "This jacket belongs to you and the collective soul of those who love you, those for whom you are the soundtrack of their lives. It should not sit in a billionaire's closet for country club bragging rights."

"For this reason, I humbly and respectfully return it to its rightful owner, which is you," the buyer shared. Newton-John looked shocked upon realizing what was inside the bright pink wrapped box. She could be seen saying, "Are you serious?" before giving the buyer a big hug. She then continued, "That is the sweetest thing."

The buyer had chosen to remain anonymous and had his face blurred out in the video. The auction house revealed that he is a doctor as well as a medical technology entrepreneur. "You're the best, you're the best! I'm so grateful. This is the most beautiful present, but mainly it's your heart that I'm grateful for," she told the buyer. Newton-John also seemed ecstatic when the buyer asked if she would put it on display in her cancer center.

"Yes, it was was always my dream to do that, so yes!" Newton-John responded. The jacket and figure-hugging pants that Newton-John had worn in the 1978 film sold separately in the November 2 auction for more than double of what they were estimated at.

They were able to raise around $405,700 for the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Research and Wellness Centre in Australia. Spanx founder Sara Blakely had bought the pants, which Newton-John had revealed she had to be sewn into. She had worn the outfit for one of the film's final songs, 'You're the One That I Want', alongside John Travolta.
