OJ Simpson blasts Gayle King over Kobe Bryant rape case question: 'This isn't the right time to do that'
OJ Simpson has given his two cents on the ongoing Gayle King firestorm saying that "we should be celebrating the greatness of Kobe Bryant" at this juncture and not focus on his 2003 rape case instead.
The CBS This Morning host became the subject of an intense backlash after she infamously asked Bryant pal Lisa Leslie about his sexual assault case in Colorado that was eventually settled out of court.
The NBA megastar was with his 13-year-old daughter Gianna and seven other people when their helicopter crashed last month in Calabasas, California.
Taking to Twitter, Simpson noted in a short video that there will "be plenty of time in the future to bring up all aspects of Kobe's life".
"I know this thing about Kobe, she's going to claim journalistic integrity," he said. "A whole lot of people who have journalistic integrity didn't feel that this was the right time to do that."
In conclusion, the 72-year-old former running back said, "God bless Kobe and his family."
The former NFL legend admitted he was "not the most objective guy" when it came to speaking about King, especially after she objected to him visiting his former wife's grave two years ago.
"I couldn't understand why it was any of her business and why she would say that on national TV," Simpson told his followers.
The disgraced football star was acquitted after being charged and tried in the murder of ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman.
As a result of the proceedings, the victims' families won a $33M civil judgment against Simpson, with damages exceeding $70M.
Having said that, Simpson is not the first person to ridicule King's behavior.
Rapper Snoop Dogg blasted her saying "we expect more from you, Gayle, don't you hang out with Oprah? Why you all attacking us, we your people."
"You ain't coming after f***ing Harvey Weinstein asking him dumb-a** questions," he added.
Meanwhile, Bill Cosby -- currently serving time for sexual assault -- was also critical of both King and Winfrey.
"Are these people that in need of fame, ratings and/or money?" he wrote on social media.
Speaking to the Today show this week, Winfrey claimed King has already received a barrage of death threats.
"Bill Cosby is tweeting from jail, and she's not doing well," Winfrey said.
King has defended herself saying the clip of her asking Leslie about the rape case was posted out of context by her own network.
