LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Jimmy Fallon has always drawn the attention of his guests as well as audience members with his laugh, and it was Martin Short who directly told that to his face.

Amid the allegations against Jimmy Fallon for causing a “toxic workplace” and his subsequent apology to employees, a video clip of his interview with Martin Short, 73, from 2019 has resurfaced on the Internet.

What did Martin Short tell Jimmy Fallon?

The clip that has gone viral is from an episode of ‘The Tonight Show’ with Martin Short and Steve Martin, 78, as guests. Short is seen calling Fallon “phony” in the episode.

Short told the host, “This is the greatest show on television,” before explaining, “because there is no host in late-night who pretends to care as much as you do.”

He added later, “No one captures phoniness like you do,” after which Fallon thanked the veteran star.

Louis CK's roast of Jimmy Fallon

However, this was not the first time the  48-year-old talk show host was at the receiving end of such ridicule.

In 2017, Louis CK seemingly criticized Fallon for asking a “stupid” question.

In one of the segments during an appearance, Louis CK spoke about his love for napping. Known for his affable nature, Fallon asked him, “You like it better than sleep?”

Giving a side-eye, CK told Fallon, “You really…. that’s stupid what you just said there. That was a dumb thing to say. That was such a dumb thing to say.”

Jimmy Fallon’s history of inappropriate laughter

In the 1990’s, when Fallon was starting his career on ‘Saturday Night Live’, he had a reputation for cracking up even in the most inappropriate situations, per The Things.

The talk show host has been criticized previously for his superficial laughter during his interviews with Kelly Ripa, Anne Hathaway, and so on.

When Ryan Gosling visited 'The Late Night Show', Fallon’s continuous laughter apparently drew the attention of the guest as well.

Is Jimmy Fallon 'phony'?

The Internet erupted as the clip went viral. "Jimmy said thank you with pride when Martin Short praised him being phony!! wow hahahaha," said one fan.

Another replied, "It’s how he reacts to every celebrity regardless of what they say. He’s a forced chuckle machine." "At least some celebrities still stand up for what they believe in," someone else said in praise.

Someone chimed in, "Martin forgot to include Jimmy’s phony hair."

A fan gushed, "That was hilarious! I love Martin Short. He's so funny and has no filter." Another social media user said, "Martin Short is too much."
