BURBANK, CALIFORNIA: Since the exit of Henry Cavill as Superman from the DC Extended Universe, rumors have circulated about who would replace the 'Enola Holmes' actor in the role. Among the many names circulating is the prominent name of 'Euphoria' actor Jacob Elordi. However, filmmaker James Gunn, who is now co-chairman and CEO of DC Studios, was quick to speak out on Twitter and debunk any rumors the Superhero role.

Gunn's ascension to co-chairman had come in October, when he and film producer Peter Safran had helped Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav find a new head of DC Films. The two were so impressed Zaslav in their search that he appointed them co-chairpersons of the rebranded DC Studios. Daily Mail reports that shortly after his appointment, Gunn announced that he was writing a film about a young Superman in his early years, after which the casting rumors began.

A tweet by a Superman and Supergirl fan account had posted a tweet stating that, “Jacob Elordi is rumored to be @JamesGunn's Superman for the #DCU,” and had asked for the fans thoughts as well. The tweet was accompanied by morphed photos of Elordi in the Superman suit, which only added fuel to the fire.

However, James Gunn was quick to dismiss the rumors of Superman being cast, including those of Elordi. He stressed that casting will not take place until the script is close to completion. He also said that there will be some exciting announcements soon, but that the casting of Superman will not be among those announcements. His tweet read, “My thoughts are no one has been cast as Superman yet. Casting, as is almost always the case with me, will happen after the script is finished or close to finished, and it isn’t. We’ll announce a few things in not too long, but the casting of Superman won’t be one of them.”

These rumors come after Henry Cavill’s exit from the role, after his appearance in Dwayne Johnson starrer ‘Black Adam.’ Cavill’s exit was announced in December on his Instagram, where he said, “I have just had a meeting with James Gunn and Peter Safran and it’s sad news everyone.”

He continued, “I will, after all, not be returning as Superman. After being told by the studio to announce my return back in October, prior to their hire, this news isn’t the easiest, but that’s life.” He further went on to wish Gun and Safran good luck, by saying, “I wish them and all involved with the new universe the best of luck, and the happiest of fortunes.”
