Nicki Minaj caught in wig beef between hairstylists Jonathan Wright and Arrogant Tae, fans can't handle drama
Thursday, July 30, saw an unusual kind of drama on social media as two hairstylists beefed over Nicki Minaj. The celebrity hairstylists are Arrogant Tae and Jonathan Wright. In case you didn’t know, Tae is supposedly a wig expert and he has been well-known for styling celebrities such as Teyana Taylor, SZA, and Nicki Minaj, with whom he began working in 2018. Wright, on the other hand, has clients like Megan Thee Stallion and Doja Cat. Needless to say, both are bigshots.
So, what’s the drama?
According to Cheatsheet, the feud began after Wright received flak on social media for styling Jeffree Star’s wig -- the YouTuber was recently outed for using racial slurs. Tae reportedly made a snide remark about the money Wright earned for the job not being good money. Wright responded by saying that he would work with anyone for $20,000 a day.
How did Minaj get sucked into the drama?
On Thursday, the rapper and mother-to-be, Minaj, shared a behind-the-scenes video of her on the set of the music video ‘Move Ya Hips’, a song that features rapper A$AP Ferg. In the video, she was wearing a strawberry-blonde wig that was supposedly styled by Wright. The stylist too shared a different video from the same shoot, and wrote, “@nickiminaj When the King Finally Slays the Queen. Baybayyyy I Slayedd Nickii with the Bun and Chopstick.”
The problem here was that Tae is Minaj’s regular wig stylist. So what happened? On his Instagram stories, Tae indirectly called Minaj disloyal for hiring Wright. He wrote, “I never switched up but they switched up. I’ve learned my lesson being loyal to people… But hey, it’s life. You can’t trust people. People are petty. I’m done dealing with people who are not loyal.”
He then wrote about the industry being dirty and breaking his back for people who turn out to be “shady” and disloyal. Following this, Minaj spoke about the situation on Instagram Live and claimed that Tae canceled on her 48 hours before she was set to film. She further claimed that Tae refused to send the wig to her and she had little time to find a replacement. Minaj said that this was a pattern with Tae and that it had happened more than once. She, however, said that she was not petty, and would not expose the text messages to show a pattern.
Tae then wrote on his Instagram that he was supposed to be the stylist on the shoot, and he did not cancel that appointment. But he said that he had to get his wisdom teeth pulled and he had told her that he would try and reschedule. But he couldn’t, claiming that the next available date would be in mid-August. He said, “I had to handle my business and get my tooth pulled because I been holding it off way before corona and I couldn’t cause of corona and now that businesses are back opened I went and got it over with!”
Tae also alleged that he had no idea about the information he needed to create Minaj a wig to her standard or quality. Wright then made a snide remark about Tae over the hair drama on his Instagram story. He wrote, “Stop venting and start praying, you don’t need sympathy you need strength!”
Fans who were witnessing the drama in real-time were dumbfounded. One fan wrote, “Tae acting a fool cause Jonathan did Nicki’s hair! Make it make sense… if you were busy chile what was she supposed to do?” Another wrote, “If Tae beefing with Jonathan he needs to be beefing with Jonathan and leave the pregnant lady out of it.”
A fan expressed their exasperation on Twitter, and wrote “I don’t like that messy cry baby s*** at all, over a wig that she wore while sitting in the bed for a mini video.” Another said on a similar note, “Tae is so shady and jealous of Jonathan but for what? Like people never wanna see other people doing good ever. Y’all are both talented Black gay hairstylists, why all the shade?”
