Nicki Minaj is officially married to convicted sex offender Kenneth Petty after less than a year of dating
Rapper Nicki Minaj revealed on Monday, October 21, that she is officially married to her beau Kenneth "Zoo" Petty, a convicted sex offender.
The 36-year-old took to her Instagram to share a clip where she revealed that she had tied the knot with 41-year-old Petty.
Alongside the clip where she flaunted souvenirs like ballcaps which read "Bride" and "Groom" and also shared, "Onika Tanya Maraj-Petty 10•21•19" referencing her new official name.
She also showed off mugs that read "Mr." and "Mrs." She had earlier called him her "husband" on several occasions on social media.
Several celebrities such as La La Anthony, Christina Aguilera, Winnie Harlow, Tanisha Thomas, and Evelyn Lozada commented on Minaj's announcement.
Minaj, whose real name is Onika Tanya Maraj, got candid on her Beats 1 radio show 'Queen Radio' about the paperwork process leading up to the wedding and how she and Petty had to obtain a wedding license.
The 'Anaconda' rapper shared, "We still had to pick it up and I was traveling, by the time I came back, we had to renew it again. From that time, you have 90 days to get married. That was about a week ago, so now I have about 80 days".
Minaj added that she was "very happy about that because my baby makes me so happy" while referring to her new hubby Petty.
According to a report by The Blast, Petty was convicted at the age of 16 in 1995 of attempted rape in relation to a 1994 case involving a woman who said that he had placed a "hard circular object" against her while she was walking down a street.
Petty's accuser also claimed that he led her to a home and into a bedroom where he had sex with her by force. He also threatened her with a knife when she attempted to leave. As a result, he spent four years in prison and was also placed on the sex offender registry.
