Newlyweds Priyanaka Chopra and Nick Jonas, who just wrapped up their grand wedding festivities held at the Umaid Bhavan Palace hotel in Jodhpur, were seen heading out together for the first time after exchanging their wedding vows at the Jodhpur airport. The couple were heading to Delhi where they will be hosting a grand reception for friends and family who were unable to attend their wedding celebrations.
Both Priyanka and Nick looked completely besotted wth each other as they held hands and posed for pictures outside the Jodhpur airport terminal. The incandescent bride chose to make her first public appearance as a married woman in an emerald green silk saree with floral embroidery, while Nick chose to wear a brown jacket and trousers for the occasion.
The duo posed for pictures even after touching down at the Delhi airport. Priyanka also rocked a pair of gold-framed shades for her departure from Jodhpur and flashed a glimpse of her wedding ring on her left hand, which was decorated with the henna patterns from her mehendi ceremony.
Although both Priyanka and Nick looked somewhat exhausted, they both made it a point to stick to each other the entire time as security personnel escorted them towards their rides to the city. The two were all smiles when they were greeted by the waiting crowd of paparazzi and fans in Delhi.
Along with Priyanka and Nick, their family members, including brothers Kevin, Frank and Joe Jonas, 'Game of Thrones' actress Sophie Turner, mama and papa Jonas, as well as Priyanka's mother Madhu Chopra, too made their way towards Delhi since they will be a part of the couple's wedding reception sceduled for Tuesday in the Indian capital. The couple is also slated to host a second wedding reception for Priyanka's Bollywood buddies in Mumbai later this week.
As has been reported previously, the famed Bollywood actress and the 'Close' singer got married to each other in an extravagant wedding ceremony which lasted for three whole days at the Umaid Bhavan Palace hotel in Jodhpur. Over the weekend, the couple also shared pictures of their pre-wedding festivities, which included the mehendi and the sangeet ceremony.
Priyanka and Nick exchanged their wedding vows in a small Christian ceremony that took place at the grounds of the Umaid Bhavan Palace Hotel in Jodhpur, India on December 1. The groom's father, Paul Kevin Jonas Sr., officiated the ceremony, where the couple exchanged wedding bands made by the famed jeweler Chopard.
The bride, groom as well as the bridesmaids and the groomsmen, which included Priyanka’s brother Siddharth and Nick’s three brothers, Joe, Kevin, and Frankie, were all dressed for the special event by fashion label Ralph Lauren. Although the fashion brand does not design wedding trousseaus, Lauren reportedly made an exception for Priyanka and Nick because of an emotional connection that the couple has with the designer label.
The couple's Hindu wedding took place on the palace grounds with the Mehrangarh Fort in the backdrop. The wedding event's highlight was a 40-foot high canopy (mandap) beautifully decorated with red flowers. Nick played the Indian groom to the hilt, as he arrived on a horse (ghodi) to the venue. He was dressed like royalty, wearing a turban and holding a sword.
Once there, the couple both took a ride on an elephant before exchanging garlands. Sources say that Priyanka grew quite emotional while exchanging garlands (jaimala). She teared up because she missed her dad and had wanted him to be there on her special day. The bride chose to wear red for the ceremony, and a source told Meaww, "Priyanka looked breathtaking in her traditional red Indian wedding outfit."
For the sangeet, Priyanka donned a stunning sequined Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla saree in gold and silver, while her beau was seen in an open midnight blue sherwani that boasted of a silk threading detail for the occasion. The pictures capture the overall festive vibe of the pre-wedding ceremony, and also gave fans a glimpse of all the fun and frolic that took place during the elaborate ceremony.
The bride performed at the function with her mother, Madhu Chopra, while Nick literally set the stage on fire with his dance performance. He was also spotted doing the signature step from 'Gallan Goodiyan', a song from Priyanka's Bollywood movie 'Dil Dhadakne Do'. Priyanka's sister Parineeti was also seen performing on a song for the sangeet, since both the bride and groom's family members took it upon themselves to recreate the couple's journey up to their wedding through their performances.
“It all began as a fierce song & dance competition between the families but ended, as always, as a huge celebration of love,” Priyanka wrote on Instagram along with a series of videos and photos from the big night. “Nick and I were looking forward to the Sangeet (musical evening), another pre-wedding ritual.. and to see what each side had put together.”
She continued, “And what a performance it was. Each family telling our stories through song and dance, filled with lots of laughter and love. We were both filled with gratitude for the effort, the love and the laughter and will carry the memories of this special evening for the rest of our lives. It is an amazing start to a lifetime of togetherness for our families and friends.. #grateful”
The couple also posted pictures of their mehendi ceremony, and made it quite clear in the caption how both of them value family as well as each other's belief systems, in and out. "One of the most special things our relationship has given us is a merging of families who love and respect each other’s faiths and cultures," wrote the couple about their mehendi ceremony.
“And so planning our wedding with an amalgamation of both was so so amazing. An important part for the girl in an Indian wedding is the Mehendi.” They added, “Once again we made it our own and it was an afternoon that kicked off the celebrations in the way we both dreamed."
