Detectives are trying to track down a woman after a newborn was found dead inside a McDonald's bathroom. Security cameras caught the woman leaving the restroom just before the remains of the baby boy were found, according to the Phoenix Police Department.

Phoenix Police responded to a call from the location Sunday afternoon, March 27 after someone saw the dead newborn. Surveillance footage shows an unidentified woman in a black Calvin Klein T-shirt leaving the bathroom before the baby's remains were found. It is unclear if the woman is connected to the investigation, but the police department posted the video on social media and asked anyone who recognized her to call authorities. An investigation into the infant's death was ongoing, and no further updates were released as of Tuesday night.

Heather Burner with the National Safe Haven Alliance told ABC News 4 that situations like this should never happen but they do. Heather counts this as the eighth child abandonment this year in the US and says there are plenty of options to avoid this situation, referring to how the Arizona law lets parents or loved ones surrender unharmed babies who are up to 30 days old to police departments, fire stations and hospitals without repercussion.

"The saddest part of all of this is that they don’t have any choices. They are at the whim or will of their parent. It’s traumatic, I think, because we know there are so many options now, there are so many safe alternatives to placing your baby in an unsafe or dangerous situation," Heather said.

In a similar incident, Connecticut police launched an investigation last week after finding a newborn abandoned on the hood of a car. Police received a 911 call around 4.15 pm on March 23 from a woman who described seeing a man flee after placing an infant on the hood of a parked car, KWTX reported. State troopers said the infant was transported to an area hospital where it was determined to be a 28 to 30 week premature newborn. The baby was listed in stable condition.

The State Police's Eastern District Major Crime division has launched an investigation to find the man who apparently abandoned the infant. The state troopers said, "The male was described as a Hispanic, heavyset with short black hair, wearing a black long-sleeved t-shirt and black jogger-style pants."
