Randy Rainbow is 'Cuomosexual' in parody song for NY governor Andrew Cuomo and it's breaking the internet
On April 6, the term "Cuomosexual" started making the rounds on social media. "I think we ALL are #Cuomosexual now!" tweeted a user. "From now on I identify as #Cuomosexual," tweeted another. Celebrity blogger Pere Hilton also tweeted, "I'm a #Cuomosexual too!!!"
Which brings us to the question: what is Cuomosexual?
As people across the country continue to self-quarantine themselves in the wake of the COVID-19 outbreak, they are discovering new ways to tackle boredom and whatnot. One such distraction came as Randy Rainbow's latest parody song.
An openly gay singer and comedian, Rainbow in best known for musical parodies of celebrities and politicians that he uploads on YouTube. He released "Andy! A Randy Rainbow Song Parody" on April 6, a video that barely took any time to go viral. Rainbow takes on Sandy from the classic musical movie 'Grease', changing the lyrics of the song to proclaim his love and admiration for New York Governor Andrew Cuomo. "Cuomosexual" seems to suggest an attraction to Cuomo.
A riff on Sandy from 'Grease', sung by John Travolta in the 1978 movie, the parody song praises Cuomo for his response to the coronavirus pandemic.
"Andy, can't ya see I'm in quarantine / A nervous wreck, and scurred as heck of COVID-19," Rainbow sings. "You bring hope when I can't cope. I guess I'm saying ay-ay-ay-oh-I love you so, oh, Andy."
"If we're on Earth, for what it's worth, I hope they make you king. You run my state, while I gain weight, with grace and dignity," the lyrics went.
Rainbow's video took no time to go viral with Twitter almost instantly flooding with the hashtag #cuomosexual. "I’ve never been prouder to contribute to a trending hashtag than to declare that I, too, am #cuomosexual," tweeted one user. "I didn't know I was a #Cuomosexual until today," said another.
People are thanking Rainbow for pacifying them with his content in these trying times. "It's only been out about an hour and I've seen it 8 times. It soothes me the way Andy soothes you and me. And America. Thank you for reflecting the way I feel."
"Thank you for being in the world, Randy. You make it a better place. ...and god knows we need some sort of solace right now," said another.
At the same time, the video criticizes President Donald Trump, who has previously also been a subject of Rainbow's spoofs garnering more than 2.5M views each for 'Desperate Cheeto' (a parody of Luis Fonsi's 'Despacito') and 'A Very Stable Genius'.
Conversely, Rainbow is facing some flak for the positive portrayal of Cuomo especially since he cut funding to New York hospitals. "The fact that #cuomosexual is trending is a perfect microcosm of what's wrong with liberals. Because liberals are hard for a guy who cut hospital funding in the heart of a pandemic. Just because he flexed his large muscles in gay pride shirt," tweeted a user. "This #cuomosexual trend is the worst thing this year," concurred another.
"Until Cuomo calls for a rent freeze he’s failing as far as I’m concerned. He may be good on tv but nyc is a mess. #cuomosexual folk should find a better crush," tweeted another disgruntled user.
