'New Amsterdam' Season 4 Episode 9: Karen ousted, fans call Veronica 'the devil'

Max deals with an unexpected situation as the patients in 'New Amsterdam' look for refuge

Spoilers for 'New Amsterdam' Season 4, Episode 9 -  'In a Strange Land'

Tuesday night and yet another episode of 'New Amsterdam' is upon us. Season 4 has seen many developments with Max (Ryan Eggold) soon leaving being one of the major plots. His romance with Helen (Freema Agyeman) which finally bloomed, may be coming to an abrupt stop soon with him set to leave for London. Tonight's episode dealt with the tricky case of immigrants as the ICE is on standby to detain them.

The official synopsis for Episode 9 reads, 'Max takes drastic measures to help several undocumented immigrants after a fire destroys the church where they had sought refuge; Sharpe and Malvo (Frances Turner) assist a patient with a life-threatening condition; Reynolds (Jocko Sims) is conflicted about his new position.'

The fourth episode saw Max in a dilemma after a load of patients come in after their church burned down. All of them consist of immigrants who used the church as their home, With their refuge now lost to the fire, the ICE is seen ready outside to detain them as soon as they're discharged. Max won't let that happen and in the heat of the moment converts the hospital cafeteria into a temporary church with the priest in charge. This move was questioned by Karen (Debra Monk) who eventually let Max have his way. Although things went well with the immigrants, the day was far from over. Veronica Fuentes (Michelle Forbes) who has caused nothing but trouble since her arrival pulled a fast one on Karen. A board meeting was held where in a complete blindside, Karen gets ousted as board chair of the hospital with Evan taking her place. The meeting was called so as to get a vote to terminate Veronica's contract but instead, it's Brantley who's kicked out.

Fans who already hated Veronica couldn't believe what just happened and took to Twitter to vent their frustration. One of the viewers said, "Wait what in Hell just happened...omgggggggggggggggggggzzzzzzzzzzzzz Veronica is a real witch, she played Karen to her own game and now Karen is out...Elvin is board director now...Thank God Max & Helen r leaving next week...Nightmare...#Shapwin #NewAmsterdam". Another fan said, " literally fuentes to everything since she arrived #NewAmsterdam". One tweet read, "karen tried to terminate veronica and they ended up terminating her ffs #NewAmsterdam".

A user commented, "I hate Veronica Fuentes! What the Fuck! She’s the devils! #NewAmsterdam". Another one of the tweets read, "All in favor of pushing Dr. Fuentes and Evan in front of a bus. #NewAmsterdam". A fan also commented, "I HATE HER SO FUCKING MUCH LIKE I’LL GIVE THIS DAMN SHOW MT KIDNEYS TO GET RID OF THIS PAIN IN MY ASS #NewAmsterdam".  

'New Amsterdam' Season 4 airs Tuesday nights at 10 pm on NBC.
