Kourtney Kardashian's Alcatraz post slammed for being 'tone deaf'
Kourtney visited the prison back in October 2017. The post was meant to be a throwback to the visit made almost five years ago.
In a video from the prison, she was seen delivering her famous line, "I'd hook up with the second one." A person commented on her post, "It's a sad place and you just smile."
Another user said, "People suffered in that prison. So glad the tone-deaf Kartrashians can laugh about it!"
A third wrote, "This is a place with sooo much history and all you did in this video was laugh and carry on instead of wanting to know and ask questions about the place! This was sad for me to watch!"
A fourth penned, "Very sad you mock as well as smile and laugh over the conditions of a federal prison. Please use your influence more positively."
Why did they shut down Alcatraz?
During the years in which it functioned, Alcatraz was one of the most infamous prisons in the world. It's geographic isolation and tight security meant that escaping from the prison was impossible.
It was opened in 1934 and existed for 29 years before it was shut down on March 21, 1963. The reason behind Alcatraz closing its doors was that operational costs involved in the running and upkeep were far too high to sustain.
