'Levius' preview: Fan favorite anime hero deals with a traumatic past and takes on cybernetic fighters in Netflix Manga adaptation
The manga series 'Levius' has earned much acclaim around the globe, with its blend of cyberpunk and steampunk. And now, fans are in for a treat, as the anime adaptation will premiere on November 28 on Netflix. The streaming giant unveiled the trailer, which showed the protagonist entering the Mecha Boxing Ring, against intimidating rivals for a series of dangerous brawls that feature fighters with cybernetic limbs.
Welcome to the world where society has finally risen from the death and destruction from war. The sport of mechanical martial arts has got people's interest. And in this battle, cybernetically augmented fighters turn their blood into steam and their bodies into killing machines.
Keeping true to the original manga material, Levius Cromwell is haunted by his experiences during a war that cost him his arm. With the help of his uncle Zachs and best friend Bill Weinberg, Levius is determined to overcome his disturbed past and battle his demons, as he fights to the death with cyborg boxers, armed with technologically advanced prosthetic.
The anime promises to be emotional and hard-hitting, and has used CGI animation. There has been much comparison to 2018's series 'Megalo Box', and fans have complained that it is a rip-off of 'Megalo Box'. However, truth to be told, while the theme of boxing is similar, the storylines are completely different. Apart from this, the Levius manga came much before 'Megalo Box'.
The manga was created by Haruhisa Nakata in 2013, and is still a favourite in Japan. The English-language license was acquired by Viz Media, and the publisher released the first translated manga volume last month. 'Levius' stars the voices of Nobunaga Shimazaki, Junichi Suwabe, Takahiro Sakurai Nobunaga Shimazaki, Junichi Suwabe, Takahiro Sakura.
Directed by Hiroyuki Seshita and Keisuke Ide, Levius will premiere on Netflix on November 28.
