Netflix anime 'Levius' might be similar to 'Megalo Box', but it is definitely not a rip-off and deserves a watch

Fans have been complaining that 'Levius' is a rip-off of 'Megalo Box'. However, that's not the case.

The Netflix anime 'Levius' is all set to hit the web on November 27 midnight, and the excitement has reached a feverish pitch. For those who are unversed with the Manga, the story revolves around a society that has reconstructed itself after the disastrous effects of war, where cybernetically augmented arena fighters battle for fame and fortune, and even die in the process.

This is an unusual sport, as the fighters turn their blood into steam and their bodies into monstrous fighting and killing machines. One of these arena fighters is Levius, who is determined to emerge victorious, just to keep alive.

There have been many comparisons to the 2018 anime "Megalo Box", which was created in remembrance of the 50th anniversary of 'Ashita No Joe'. Many fans have complained that 'it is exactly the same' and that 'Levius is a rip-off of Megalo Box.' To be fair, theme of 'Megalo Box' and 'Levius' is similar as they're both based on the sport of boxing. However, for starters, the Levius Manga came much before 'Megalo Box'. In 'Megalo Box", the boxers fight while wearing a metal frame, which makes their attacks more dangerous.

The show takes place in a futuristic setting, where citizens live luxuriously in the city, while unlicensed citizens live on the outskirts of the city, where there is a slum. The protagonist of the story is Junk Dog, a man who fights in underground illegal rings.

According to the Netflix synopsis of 'Levius', 'Young Levius rises through the ranks in the brutal world of metal boxing under his uncle's guidance. Forces outside the ring have their eye on him.' So 'Levius' clearly doesn't seem like a rip-off of 'Megalo Box' despite having the similar concept of boxing. There's much hope that the Netflix adaptation does justice to the Manga.

'Levius' stars the voices of Nobunaga Shimazaki, Junichi Suwabe, Takahiro Sakurai Nobunaga Shimazaki, Junichi Suwabe, Takahiro Sakura.
