'What a witch': Nancy Pelosi slammed for ELBOWING GOP Rep Mayra Flores's daughter
'No child should be pushed to the side for a photo op. PERIOD!!' tweeted Flores as she pointed out the incident
Mayra Flores, currently serving as the Hidalgo County GOP Hispanic Outreach Chair and the first Mexican-born congress member, took to Twitter to accuse House Speaker Nancy Pelosi of pushing her young daughter during a photo op after being sworn in on June 21. She shared a video where the 82-year-old Speaker is seen waving to someone off-camera when she looks down at Flores’ daughter standing beside her and pushes the little girl with her elbow, making the child move to the side.
This certainly didn't go well with the mother. She shared actor James Woods' tweet, which said, "I love this princess stood her ground, while Nancy showed her true colors." Flores commented, "I am so proud of my strong, beautiful daughter for not allowing this to faze her. She continued to smile and pose for the picture like a Queen. No child should be pushed to the side for a photo op. PERIOD!!"

Conservative columnist and TV show host Benny Johnson blasted Pelosi in response to the video. He wrote, “Nancy Pelosi ELBOWS the little daughter of new GOP Congresswoman Mayra Flores — what a witch.”

The swearing-in ceremony
Mayra Flores was sworn in as the newest House member on June 21 after making headlines for flipping Texas’s 34th Congressional District. Speaker Nancy Pelosi held a swearing-in ceremony for Flores on the House floor at 6.30 pm. House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy stood beside her as she recited the oath of office. She was surrounded by members of the Texas delegation.
Another video of the photo op shows Pelosi and Flores smiling and shaking hands as Pelosi congratulates her on the historic achievement. “It’s a great honor to welcome Congresswoman Flores to the Capitol and to the Congress of the United States with great congratulations,” the Speaker said in that video. “And again, grateful for her leadership and her beautiful family who is here today. Thank you Congresswoman Flores for your courage to run for office and best wishes for your success. It’s an honor to work with you," she said.
The 30-year-old Flores became the first Mexican-born congress member when she won a special election earlier in June against a Democratic opponent to replace Texas Democrat Rep Filemon Vela who retired before the end of his term. Flores had even earned the vote of Texas transplant and billionaire Elon Musk, who tweeted that he had just made his first-ever vote for a Republican candidate: “I voted for Mayra Flores — first time I ever voted Republican." She will face another election in November against Democratic nominee Vicente Gonzalez.
