Nancy Pelosi a mask-fluencer?
The Speaker is known to buy a lot of her masks from Donna Lewis, an upscale boutique in Alexandria, Virginia, located just outside of Washington, DC. The boutique's owner Chris Lewis in an interview confirmed that Pelosi had been shopping from them for years. Lewis sent some of the face coverings with patterns he thought Pelosi would like and the rest is history.
Lewis said that after Pelosi appeared on TV wearing their masks, many of which included their brand's logo, the demand for them skyrocketed to a point where the boutique was three weeks behind on filling orders. "Anyone that loves Nancy wants this mask. It really became a new, fun accessory in a tough time," Lewis said. "I have people who come in here and say, 'I saw this on Nancy, and I love it.'"
In another interview, reflecting on the increased demand for their masks and how Pelosi was responsible for it, Lewis said, "She said, 'Chris, pick me out some, send me about four or five. Since then, whoosh, like a rocket — it's been overwhelming." He added that they have been receiving orders from across the globe for the masks that Pelosi sported.
"Oh, all over. Singapore, New Zealand, Australia, Europe," said Lewis. "She has quite a following," he added. Till June last year, Lewis said their boutique, which is named after his wife, sold close to 6,000 masks at $22 each. For every mask purchased, he said, one is donated to the John Hopkins Hospital.
