These are dark times with most of the world suffering due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Among the many roaring debates making rounds in the US in the wake of the public health crisis, one of the most controversial is whether people should or should not be using face masks. Many in the country are against it as they believe it infringes upon their civil liberties while some find the guidance itself confusing.

In fact, President Donald Trump has also indicated that he is not in favor of masks. Trump is reportedly afraid of being seen as “weak” while wearing one in public. Moreover, even first lady Melania hasn't been seen wearing a mask that regularly either.

However, outside of all that chaos, there is one senior official who has taken the global pandemic very seriously. For the past few months, Nancy Pelosi has been encouraging people to practice social distancing and wear masks to stop the further spread of the coronavirus. And to get the point across, the speaker of the United States House of Representatives has given the face mask quiet a stylish twist.

In the past few weeks, Pelosi has matched her outfits with her face coverings at every press conference and events. The 80-year-old has donned masks as well as silk scarves to perfectly complement her selection of brightly colored dress and suit ensembles. At the signing ceremony for the Paycheck Protection Program and Health Care Enhancement Act, Pelosi wore a white suit, brown top, and scarf with a graphic sandy print, while at the swearing-in of Representative-elect Kweisi Mfume she impressed everyone in a pink pantsuit with a matching face mask.

Pelosi’s sartorial efforts have caught many people’s attention. One of the fans of her color-coordinated outfits is none other than the former first lady of the United States, Hilary Clinton, who shared a picture of Pelosi on her Instagram in which she can be seen wearing a pink pantsuit and a face mask of the same color. Praising Pelosi, Hilary wrote: “Leader of the House majority, and of mask-to-pantsuit color coordination: @speakerpelosi”. The May 13 post garnered more than 200,000 likes with lots of positive comments.

Looks like Pelosi has even beaten Melania and Ivanka Trump in this coronavirus 'fashion battle'. Though the first lady and the first daughter have tried to match their outfits with their face coverings. For instance, while appearing in a video for the White House, Melania Trump spoke of the importance of wearing a cloth face mask. She wore a white shirt as she donned a mask of the same color in the month of April. You can watch the video here:

Later, Ivanka Trump donned a black mask and paired it with black jumpsuit during one of her meetings.

However, none of the fashionistas could match Pelosi's game.

Pelosi’s masks have not just made her a fashion icon in the world of politics, but a small boutique in Virginia, from where she got her masks, has also got famous. Chris Lewis, who runs the boutique, thought of making masks amid the crisis. But his days changed for good came when Pelosi requested him to make some masks for her. Soon after that, the demand for his maks went off the roofs. Not just from across America, Lewis is now getting orders of masks from around the world. “Oh, all over. Singapore, New Zealand, Australia, Europe. She has quite a following,” he added.
