The 2018 edition of the MTV Video Music Awards that took place on Monday gave the world some of the most stylish and amazing looks that the industry can come up with. From Madonna's non-virginal wedding gown to Lil' Kim's iconic purple jumpsuit, the VMAs has always been accustomed to jaw-dropping moments, and this year, too, it did not disappoint. Therefore, we bring you the 20 best-dressed celebrities who graced the red carpet with their breathtaking looks this year.

Jennifer Lopez

Forever a style queen, Jennifer Lopez looked insanely good in a silver chainmail one-shoulder dress by Versace. The 49-year-old pop diva paired the one-shoulder number with matching towering silver heels. JLo's dress hugged her sensational figure and was gathered at the hip at the top of a thigh-high slit.

Karlie Kloss

Newly-engaged Karlie Kloss gave some major supermodel vibes as she showed off her statesque stems in a metallic Elie Saab number. The 25-year-old model paired the split gown with a reflective Judith Leiber clutch, styled by Karla Welch. The slim-fitting bodice with V-shaped neckline and golden accents made this gown the best of the metallic dresses on the carpet. Kloss in a chainmail Elie Saab column gown is so much better than a knight in shining armour, we say.

Cardi B

Cardi B is not one for tame red-carpet appearances. She rocked the ultimate post-baby comeback look — a purple velvet dress by Nicolas Jebran that was long and elegant on one side and short and playful on the other. The rich raspberry velvet, the gazillions of dollars worth of emeralds, the kicky pixie cut makes her both lively and elegant, a combination last seen at the VMAs, never.

Kylie Jenner

Kylie Jenner looked like the perfect girl boss in her smokin' hot mini blazer dress. Jenner, who was recently on the Forbes' list of America's youngest 'self-made' billionaires, paired the sleek style with coordinating heels and an embellished white belt. However, the lip kit mogul might have been in for an awkward time given the recent allegations thrown at her and her boyfriend Travis Scott by rap artist Nicki Minaj.

Shawn Mendes

Shawn Mendes looked absolutely stunning as he scored a style win in a color-blocked suit jacket. His blue and green jacket by Paul Smith was an unexpected and oh-so-trendy surprise at the VMAs.

Chloe X Halle

R&B duo Chloe X Halle (Chloe Bailey and Halle Bailey) were living works of art at the VMAs. The sisters looked stunning in gowns worthy of a modern art exhibit. If we were a sister duo this stunning, we'd coordinate in matching Iris Van Herpen looks all the time, too.

Shanina Shaik

The Model Squad star sports a white lace Naeem Khan jumpsuit on the red carpet with nude undergarments. Sexy, red carpet-worthy and a killer summer style, this look wins big with us, for sure.

Sofia Carson

This singer went big literally and figuratively, wearing a larger-than-life dress with a white floral top and multicolored tulle skirt. Sofia turns up in a gown that makes her look like the undisputed Queen of the Big Top, but in a good way. Our dream is for the Disney star to let us borrow this Carolina Herrera gown once she's done with it.

Hennessy

Cardi B's sister Hennessy too joined the bandwagon and ended up on the Best Dressed list alongside her rapper sister, wearing a plaid skirt with a matching long coat, chunky jewelry, and retro sunglasses.

Amara La Negra

Amara La Negra was a goddess on earth in a green-and-gold Grecian-style gown at the VMAs. Where a lot of celebs chose to take the see-through route, Amara's dress took breaths away from the fashion hungry crowd.

Rita Ora

Rita Ora definitely didn’t disappoint on the red carpet, in a very sheer, floor-length gown by Jean Paul Gaultier. Switching things up from that incredible neon outfit, even her eyebrows were on point, with a fashionable flick of eyeliner.

Camilla Cabello

The "Havana" singers dons a two-toned gown by Oscar de la Renta on the red carpet, a big contrast in comparison to the short-length dresses that dominated the carpet. The tie-dye effect and the high-low hem save her from seeming too straitlaced: It’s fanciful and fun.

Millie Bobby Brown

Millie Bobby Brown has made a name for herself as one of the youngest style stars in the game, and she did not disappoint in this black jumpsuit with tulle accents. If only we knew to how to work a Rosie Assoulin trouser set at 14 half as well as Millie Bobby Brown does.

Shay Mitchell

Shay Mitchell provided a much-needed pop of color amid a sea of silver. This orange-accented skirt suit by Nicolas Jebran is an outfit you can take off the red carpet and into your fall wardrobe.

Hayley Kiyoko

We'd love Hayley Kiyoko no matter what she's wearing, but we love her even more in this Stello dress. The heavily sequined black dress worked like a charm for the red carpet event, and we can't help but love this simple but chic look from the newcomer.

Tiffany Haddish

Tiffany Haddish too stole the show with her edgy looks in her Naeem Khan see-through dress and the extremely complementing Chopard jewelry. However, we can guess how the dress could have been too much for her since she immediately changed into a different outfit after giving out the first award.

Nicki Minaj

The real action was on the pink carpet, where VMAs-winner Nicki Minaj basically wore bathers with a sheer dress over the top. She went and put all her drama with Travis Scott and Kylie Jenner behind her as she walked the red carpet in a cream bodysuit by Off-White, which she completed the revealing look with a see-through skirt.

Teyana Taylor

Is there a VMA award for best abs? If so, we're submitting Teyana Taylor as the winner. Although we aren't great fans of the almost-falling-down pants, the killer abs under the cropped white top steal the show away from her somewhat average outfit.

Blake Lively

Blake Lively stunned in a floor-length white suit by  Ralph & Russo for the night, as she rocked up without husband Ryan Reynolds for the evening. Blake wore five other suits this past week alone, and these are the very definition of a big finish. If she starts to run, she may well actually take flight.

SZA

While we aren't 100% on board with her choice in shoes, SZA sizzled in this baby pink frock that felt very early-aughts. SZA, we need you, we need you, we need you...to stop looking so perfect in this fuzzy Rodarte number.
