Redditors blast mother who ignored daughter's pain and accused her of slacking at school after accident
A 46-year-old mother was bashed by internet users after she shared the story of her daughter on Reddit. The woman asked in the r/AmITheA*****e forum if she was in the wrong for preferring her daughter's grades over her 'pain'. According to her post, her daughter had gotten into a car accident and endured minor injuries. However, even after she was medically diagnosed to be "alright", she kept complaining about her "pain."
After her reports not showing any problems, the mother told her daughter that it was probably a mental response to the traumatic event and that she would soon be alright. After this, the daughter stopped complaining about the pain, and the mother thought everything was alright - until she got a mail from her daughter's teacher about her "poor performance and despondent attitude."

According to her, after the confrontation with her daughter, they got into a fight, and her daughter refused to talk to anyone after that. The 46-year-old woman alleged that the 16-year-old student did not talk about her 'pain' until her grades came out far below her usual levels. She said, "I pushed her on it and she started talking about pain again which I frankly think is bullshit. She hasn’t said a peep about it for two months, only when her grades are slipping." See below the original post by the Redditor as she talks about the entire incident.
Fellow Redditors blasted the mother and pointed out how she 'assumed' her daughter was doing fine after telling her to stop talking about it. Confirming the OP was an a**h*** indeed, one user said, "Whether this pain is physical or psychological it's still incredibly real pain. She needs help, not an a**h*** parent telling her to shut up and then throwing her silence back in her face. Do better."
Another user said that she should not have taken the pain of her daughter lightly. This user revealed that in the past, being hospitalized for just a couple of hours after a car accident left her disabled. "I already know your daughter has been in pain since the accident, but she didn't feel safe in telling you. What proof do I have? Her grades aren't normal for her. What a coincidence," the user lashed out.
After the responses from the other Redditors, the mother seemed to have acknowledged her mistake and posted it as an edit. She said, "I get it, I’m an awful person. I wasn’t seeing past the grades and I treated my daughter horribly. Thank you especially to the medical professionals who replied, I had no idea this could be so serious. I’ve already booked a specialist for two weeks from now (earliest appointment) and apologized to my daughter. I know I still have a lot of making up to do. We’re going out for ice cream."
