Although there are reports of Harry and Meghan Markle being "happier than ever" as the official date of their quitting the royal family draws near, there were sources which claimed that the couple regrets announcing that they wanted to step down from the monarchy and move to Canada.

The report comes weeks after both of them wrapped up the last leg of their royal public engagements in what was called their "farewell tour" earlier this month, and returned to their Vancouver Island home where they are currently holed up as part of social distancing amid the coronavirus pandemic.

According to New Idea, a source claimed that neither the Duke nor the Duchess of Sussex had thought through the consequences of Megxit before making the historic announcement back in January.

“They realized they’re facing a harsh new reality - surviving as ordinary folks who have to work for a living. They’ve been living in a fantasy world fuelled by money-hungry Meghan. She convinced henpecked Harry they could take the world by storm and make mega-millions if they ditched the royals. Without their HRH titles, their celebrity appeal is plummeting, and they’ve been forced to admit to the queen, ‘We were wrong! Let us come home,’” an insider said.

The source further added that the couple are in “full of remorse” and “bitterly regret” their decision to break up with the royal family and move to North America with their son, Archie. It was also reported that they have been secretly begging the Queen to let them come back and rejoin the Firm.

Since the report has not been confirmed by any official source, it has to be taken with a pinch of salt. The authenticity of the news story must also be questioned since both Harry and Meghan got an ecstatic welcome back when they revisited the UK earlier month. Harry even requested the hosts at an eco-tourism summit in Edinburgh, to forego addressing him by his royal title, to emphasize the fact that it did not hold much value to him anymore.

“He has made it clear we are all just to call him ‘Harry'," Journalist Ayesha Hazarika, one of the hosts at the event, said.

Moreover, it is not like the royal couple will lose every prestigious title that they held in the past. As the nitty-gritty details of their post-Megxit life were worked out by palace officials, it was reported that Harry and Meghan will continue to be known as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, as well as by their titles, the Earl and Countess of Dumbarton and the Baron and Baroness Kilkeel. Additionally, Princess Diana's youngest son would also be retaining the ranks of Major, Lieutenant Commander, and Squadron Leader.

Since he never abdicated, Harry also remains the sixth in line to the throne and the Sussexes' status in the order of precedence did not change.

The latest report came after it was reported that Harry's father and the future king of England, Prince Charles, was tested positive for the coronavirus on Tuesday, March 24.
