How did Jeremiah Green die? Modest Mouse co-founder and drummer dies at 45
SEATTLE, WASHINGTON: Jeremiah Green, co-founder and drummer of the rock band Modest Mouse, died Saturday, December 31, at the age of 45 after a brief battle with cancer. Green's tragic demise was announced by Isaac Brock, the band's frontman, in a Facebook message posted shortly before midnight on New Year's Eve.
“I don’t know a way to ease into this: Today we lost our dear friend, Jeremiah,” the saddening post reads. “He laid down to rest and simply faded out. I’d like to say a bunch of pretty words right now, but it just isn’t the time. These will come later and from many people. Please appreciate all the love you give, get, have given, and will get. Above all, Jeremiah was about love. We love you.” Green was married to Laura Green and was a proud father to a six-year-old son Wilder James Isaac.

Jeremiah Green: Modest Mouse drummer diagnosed with 'stage four cancer'
The rock band on Christmas announced Green’s stage four cancer diagnosis in another Facebook post. “Jeremiah was diagnosed with cancer a short while ago, and he’s currently in treatment. It seems to be going smoothly and making a positive difference.” The post stated. “Jeremiah, as am I, are believers in the power of positive energy, so if you would be so kind as to send ‘good vibes’ (to quote Jeremiah) in the direction of Jeremiah and his family, that’d be great.” It was a sentiment echoed by Jeremy’s mother Carol Namatame. "Please send healing vibes for my son, Jeremiah Green. He's [sic] is so strong and so brave and hanging in there!" she said in a Facebook post.
Green co-founded Modest Mouse in 1993 with Brock and bassist Eric Judy, who left the group in 2012. Green had been a consistent presence in the group’s lineup and was the longest-serving member of the band, aside from Brock. The veteran musician briefly departed the group in 2003 but soon re-joined in 2004. Green has been a part of every Modest Mouse album including 'This Is a Long Drive for Someone With Nothing to Think About,' 'Sad Sappy Sucker' and 'The Moon and Antarctica.' Their most recent album, 'The Golden Casket,' was released on June 25, 2021.
In addition to Modest Mouse, Green performed with bands including Vells, Satisfact, Red Stars Theory, and Peeved. The drummer even released his self-titled debut EP with Vells in 2003. He was recently named No. 37 on the list of top 50 best rock drummers by music publication Stylus Magazine, according to Variety. Prior to his tragic death, Green performed in the early dates of the Modest Mouse tour celebrating the 25th anniversary of the group's breakthrough second album, ‘The Lonesome Crowded West’.
