How did Mira Furlan die? Michael Straczynski shares heartfelt tribute on 'Babylon 5' actress's death at 65

Furlan was best known for her roles in the sci-fi series 'Babylon 5' as Minbari Ambassador Delenn and Danielle Rousseau in 'Lost'

The entertainment industry lost a star as the legendary actress Mira Furlan passed away at the age of 65. The news regarding her death was confirmed by 'Babylon 5' creator J Michael Straczynski in a lengthy tribute on Twitter. 

Straczynski wrote, "It is a night of great sadness, for our friend and comrade had gone down the road where we cannot reach her. But as with all things, we will catch up with her in time, and I believe she will have many stories to tell us, and many new roles to share with the universe.:

How did Mira Furlan die?

Straczynski’s letter does not reveal the cause of Furlan's death. However, the letter does touch upon her declining health for some time. "We’ve known for some time now that Mira’s health was failing...I’m not sure that this is the right time or place to discuss the sheer randomness of what happened...and have all been dreading this day. We kept hoping that she would improve. In a group mail sent to the cast a while back, I heard that she might be improving.”

In his tribute, Straczynski says, "Vey few people knew that side of Mira: the fiery, fearless side that fought ceaselessly for her art."

"When Mira Furlan came to audition for Babylon 5, her home country of Yugoslavia was in turmoil and shattering into two separate countries. During our first meeting, we spoke about her work and her life, and I learned that she had been a part of a touring theater group that continued to cross borders of the disintegrating country despite receiving death threats from both sides in the civil war," he wrote recollecting the time when he first met her.

Furlan was best known for her roles in the sci-fi series 'Babylon 5' as Minbari Ambassador Delenn and Danielle Rousseau in 'Lost'. Her other notable work include 'When Father Was Away on Business' and 'The Abandoned'. she even wrote the play 'Until Death Do Us Part' set in 1970s Zagreb. 

Furlan's passing has left her fans devasted. They took to Twitter to convey their condolences. One tweeted, "Well, sh*t. I've just read that Mira Furlan, Ambassador Delenn, from Babylon 5 has passed away. 65 is too damned young." Another wrote, "You will be missed RIP #mirafurlan" One wrote, "Mira has gone beyond the Rim, to a place where no shadows fall. She was one of B5’s finest.
