Mindy Kaling, known to be extremely private about her life and personal affairs, is a mother once again. While making an appearance on 'The Late Show with Stephen Colbert', 'The Office' star revealed that she gave birth to her second child. The talk show's official Twitter handle posted a clip of Kaling with the caption, "Mindy Kaling joins Stephen Colbert on 'The Late Show with Stephen Colbert' tonight and she has the best kind of news," followed by a baby emoji.

Announcing the special news, Kaling said in the clip, "I'm telling this for the first time, it feels so strange... I gave birth to a baby boy on September 3." Surprised by the revelation, Colbert replied, "No one even knew you were pregnant!" Kaling then laughed and said, "I know, this is news to a lot of people, it's true." Giving more information about her newborn baby, Kaling said that she has named the baby Spencer. Kaling, creator of the Netflix coming-of-age comedy-drama 'Never Have I Ever', is already mother to Katherine aka Kit, 2, and has never publicly identified the father.

Kaling, creator of the Netflix coming-of-age comedy-drama 'Never Have I Ever', is already mother to Katherine aka Kit, 2, and has never publicly identified the father. Back when her first child Katherine Swati was born, a source told People that “she is not telling anyone, not even close friends, who the father is.” It's no different this time around.

Fans took to Twitter to speculate who the father of Kaling’s baby might be, despite the actress never talking at all on the topic. One user, calling it Hollywood’s best kept secret, tweeted, "The best kept secret in Hollywood is the identity of the father of Mindy Kaling’s children. if you know…my dm is open." Another, hoping it’s Kaling’s ‘The Office’ co-star BJ Novak, wrote, "I know it’s her business but if the father of Mindy Kaling’s kids is not BJ Novak I will be so disappointed." Another fan, reiterating the same, said, "I still think BJ Novak is the father of both of Mindy's kids," while another tweeted, "I will once again say that nothing will ever convince me that BJ isn’t the father of Mindy’s children."

The actress has touched upon the importance of family in her show 'Never Have I Ever'. Her mother, Dr Swati Chokalingam, died in 2012 following a battle with pancreatic cancer. Her daughter Katherine's middle name is Swati, in honor of Kaling's mother. Kaling's father, Avu Chokalingam, has visited his granddaughter every day since she was born in 2017, according to the actress.

Speaking to Glamour in June 2019, Kaling said, "I always knew I wanted to be a mom, but I would have put it off and put it off. I'm happy that it happened when it did. I would have put it off indefinitely. I've seen firsthand the heartbreak of women who have waited to get pregnant. For me, my relationship with my mother was such an integral part of my life. Thinking back on our relationship is still such a huge source of my happiness day-to-day, so I'm so grateful for having Katherine."

Talking about her late mother Swati, Kaling told People, "My mom was incredibly fierce and so devoted to us, just loved us and really wanted us to be happy no matter what we did. My career choice was not something that she was familiar with and she was just so supportive of that. And if I could give that to my child, just the open-mindedness, I'd be so happy."

Kaling is currently promoting her new essay collection, 'Nothing Like I Imagined'.
