Miley Cyrus slams critics for slut-shaming her after Cody Simpson make-out session: Get used to me dating!
Miley Cyrus has finally opened up about her turbulent few months following her split from ex-husband Liam Hemsworth and fired back at critics who slut-shamed her.
Just a day after she was spotted kissing Australian musician Cody Simpson, the singer took to social media and fired back at critics who accused her of moving on "too soon", first from ex-husband and then from Kaitlynn Carter.
The 26-year-old singer released a statement saying, "I know the public feels invested in my past relationship because they felt like they saw it thru from the beginning. I think that’s why people have always felt so entitled over my life and how I live it because they’ve watched me grow up.”
She then emphasized that as an adult she is free to do what she chooses: "But I am grown now and make choices as an adult knowing the truth/details/reality. People only ‘know’ what they see on the internet.”
Miley then continued to address the double standards that are set for women and men when it comes to dating, “Men (especially successful ones) are RARELY slut-shamed. They move on from one beautiful young woman to the next MOST times without consequence. They are usually referred to as ‘legends,’ ‘heartthrobs,’ ‘G,’ ‘Ladies Man,’ etc…. where women are called sluts/whores!”
\Miley added that she is just trying to survive in a man's world. "I am trying to just THRIVE/survive in a 'mans' world. If we can’t beat em, join em! If our president can ‘grab em by the p***y... can’t I just have a kiss and an açai bowl?!?!”
She then said that this whole dating this is new to her. "This 'dating' thing is new to me too. I’ve never been an 'adult'/ grown-ass woman experiencing this," she wrote.
On Thursday, TMZ had released a video that featured Cody and Miley sharing a kiss at a food joint.
Miley and Liam got married in December last year. Within eight months of the marriage, the news of the couple's divorce was revealed in August earlier this year.
Right after the split was confirmed, Miley was seen on a vacation with reality TV actress Kaitlynn Carter who had also recently split from her ex-husband Brody Jenner.
After barely dating for a month, Miley called it quits between her and Kaitlynn.
In her Twitter post, she said that she will continue to date. "I refuse to recluse and ‘date’ from home cause A. That’s not fun B. Extremely uncomfortable/puts me in a vulnerable position. I would like to share an activity with someone I am dating and not be stuck at home with pretty much nothing to do but ‘Netflix and chill.'"
Miley added, "I was in a committed relationship for almost all my teens and early 20s; with the exception of a few breaks." She said that during the breaks she concentrated on her work. "Don’t f--king pity me, that’s not what I’m asking for. I have a great life I wouldn’t trade for ‘privacy’ but PLEASE don’t make this awkward for me!”
Ending her statement, Miley said, “I am trying to make light and like always MAKE FUN of myself/and the public’s perception of me! Get used to me dating—this is where I’m at! #HotGirlFall."
