The tragic night of Takeoff's passing

Tragedy struck on November 1, 2022, when Takeoff lost his life to a gunshot wound. During Halloween weekend, he and Quavo were attending a private event when a sudden altercation escalated into gunfire.

The Houston Police Chief, Troy Finner, later confirmed that Takeoff was not the intended target.

Finner said in a press conference, "This morning at 2.34 am, officers received a call of a shooting in progress. Officers arrived there shortly thereafter — a downtown location, Billiards & Bowling Alley. They came upon a male who was deceased. That male has been identified as Kirsnick Ball, better known as Takeoff. He's a member of the Migos rap group out of Atlanta."

Quality Control, Takeoff’s record label, also issued a statement in response to the tragedy.

Their statement read, "It is with broken hearts and deep sadness that we mourn the loss of our beloved brother Kirsnick Khari Ball, known to the world as Takeoff. Senseless violence and a stray bullet has taken another life from this world and we are devastated."

Remembering Takeoff's legacy

Migos, the Grammy-nominated rap group, originated in Lawrenceville, Georgia, a suburb just outside Atlanta. They have collaborated with notable industry artists like Drake, Katy Perry, Nicki Minaj, and Offset's wife, Cardi B.

In remembrance of Takeoff's legacy, Cardi B, who is 31 years old, shared a photo of him on her Instagram Story. The image depicted Takeoff standing with Quavo and Offset, sharing smiles.

In a video posted on his YouTube channel titled 'A Conversation For The Fans', Quavo opened up about how he has been dealing with the loss of his relative.

He expressed his love and the lasting impact of Takeoff, stating, “I miss him a lot and I love him… He knows I love him. That’s what we always know."

He added, "So when you see me and you see me smiling or something like that, you don’t gotta never think I forgot about him or I’ll forget about him. I think about him all the time. Sometimes I cry myself to sleep. And that’s it. I just know he’s here. If I can’t feel him, I just know he’s around.”
