Michelle Williams splits from husband Phil Elverum less than one year after their secret wedding
Michelle Williams and her husband Phil Elverum have gone their separate ways after less than a year of marriage, People reports.
The 'Fosse/Verdon' star quietly married indie musician Elverum last summer. The news of the split comes after Williams was spotted without a wedding band during her last two public outings.
“Michelle and Phil separated at the beginning of the year. It was an amicable spilt and they remain friends,” a source disclosed to the publication.
The Golden Globes winning actress first revealed her romance to Elverum in a cover story for Vanity Fair last July, when she confirmed her marriage to the 40-year-old musician for the first time. Williams and Elverum got married in a small ceremony in the Adirondacks with a few friends and both their daughters were present. Williams is mother to 12-year-old Matilda with late Heath Ledger and Elverum has a 3-year-old daughter from his first marriage.
Talking about her romance with the musician after the death of her husband Ledger in 2008, she told Vanity Fair "I never gave up on love. I always say to Matilda, ‘Your dad loved me before anybody thought I was talented, or pretty, or had nice clothes,’” she said. Williams revealed that she married the musician, who mainly records under the name Mount Eerie, and added; "Ultimately the way he loves me is the way I want to live my life on the whole. I work to be free inside of the moment. I parent to let Matilda feel free to be herself, and I am finally loved by someone who makes me feel free."
Her ex-husband, Elverum also lost his wife, Geneviève Castrée, who was an illustrator and a musician. Four months after they had their daughter she was diagnosed with inoperable pancreatic cancer and died 13 months later in 2016.
