Michelle Obama showers praise on Meghan Markle for being an 'inspiration' after her charitable royal tour of Africa
Michelle Obama praised Meghan Markle by calling her an "inspiration" for her charity work.
The former first lady wrote a heartfelt tribute on Instagram to the Duchess of Sussex, applauding her work during her royal tour of Africa, Daily Mail reports.
Michelle, 55, shared a photo of Meghan attending a reception for Young People at the Residence of the British High Commissioner in Cape Town.
"Thank you to my friend, Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Sussex, a thoughtful leader who is breaking the mold and making our world better for it," she wrote. "Whether meeting with our leaders or helping girls around the world seek the education they deserve, she is an inspiration to so many."
Meghan gave an empowering speech on the first day of her African tour as she arrived with husband Prince Harry and their son Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, aged four months, on Monday.
"While I'm here with my husband as a member of the royal family, I want you to know, from me, I am here with you as a mother, as a wife, as a woman, as a woman of color and as your sister," she told a crowd of teenage girls.
The Sussexes later visited a Justice Desk initiative in Nyanga township, where young girls in the community are taught about their rights, safety, self-awareness, and self-defense.
The 38-year-old royal subsequently went solo to a meeting with Cape Town charity Mothers2Mothers, that trains and employs mothers who are HIV positive.
Michelle's appreciation of Meghan comes just weeks after Hillary Clinton praised her for being an inspiration to so many people.
The 2016 presidential hopeful, 71, gushed about Meghan's work with UK-based charity Smart Works, which provides clothing and coaching to unemployed women.
"I'm so inspired by how Meghan Markle—aka one half of @sussexroyal—is representing the U.S. in the U.K. and on the world stage," the former Secretary of State wrote of the Duchess of Sussex. "Meghan's new project: Helping @SmartWorksCharity equip women who have been out of the workforce with the office essentials they need to feel confident in job interviews and beyond."
