Michelle Branch and Patrick Carney welcome their first child
The 35-year-old 'Everywhere' singer revealed on Thursday that she had given birth to her and fiancé Patrick Carney's first child, a baby boy, on Tuesday
Michelle Branch welcomed her first child with fiancé Patrick Carney, and the 35-year-old musician, who is a mum for the second time, took to Instagram to share the good news.
“Patrick and I are over the moon in love with our son Rhys James Carney,” the Grammy winner captioned a picture of the newborn on Thursday, August 30. “Born August 28th, 2018 at 11:48pm. 8 lbs 13oz 20 inches,” she continued.
The 'The Game of Love' singer had announced her pregnancy in February on Instagram with a sweet ultrasound of their baby on the way, just three months before the couple’s planned wedding; “Well, we were just about to send out Save the Dates for our wedding in May when we got this little surprise,” she wrote. "Baby Carney is happening this summer and Patrick and I couldn’t be more excited! xx @officialpatrickcarney,” she gushed tagging her 38-year-old drummer fiance.
The 'Everywhere' singer, who also shares a 13-year-old daughter Owen with ex-husband Teddy Landau, met Carney in 2015 while working on her album 'Hopeless Romantic.' The pair started dating shortly after and got engaged in July 2017. Branch filed for divorce from Landau in February 2015 after 11 years of marriage.
In a March 2017 interview with Billboard, Branch opened up about working with 'The Black Keys' drummer.
“The record wouldn’t have seen the light of day had he not been involved. That’s why it was important for him to be up there — when we were making it it felt like us against the world,” she said.
“Pat has said, ‘I remember seeing you on MTV in the early 2000s and thinking you were really cute.’ It’s, like, why couldn’t we have just met each other in our twenties? We would have saved so much heartache!”
She got engaged to Carney on her 34th birthday one year ago when he proposed her right when she was blowing the candles on her cake.
