The National Hockey League (NHL) returned on Monday, August 3, nearly after five months of hiatus, despite growing concerns over the deadly coronavirus sweeping nations across the world. NHL announced zero positive tests among the players last week and going forward, everyone inside the bubble will be tested using a nasal swap on a daily basis according to reports.

Micheal Ferland, who was seen fighting concussions symptoms for the majority of the season, has made a comeback with Vancouver Canucks, playing against Minnesota Wild in the opening game for the qualifying series. Ferland suffered a concussion on October 30, 2019, in a fight against Kyle Clifford of the LA Kings. When the player continued to experience concussion-related symptoms upon returning in December, he was placed on a long term injured reserve. Ferland was limited to 14 regular-season games due to the symptoms.

When the news surrounding NHL started after swirling, whispers regarding Ferland's comeback started to sail too. Reports suggested that Ferland was in the NHL bubble and looked "strong in scrimmages." Meanwhile, offering an update on his health, Ferland said, "I feel really good. It's been a tough year. Just being able to go out there, practice, be around the guys, that's a good feeling," reports CBC.

He further added, "My eyes weren't working right," he said. "I'd get migraines. I need to see the bodies, that's kind of what was bringing on symptoms before. It was never the contact part, it was more of the speed and the bodies and having to make plays at top speed that I was having problems with." In the following statement, Ferland said that he wasn't giving himself rest and going home during the two months off gave helped him recover. "I haven't had symptoms or been feeling awful ever since," Ferland said.

Ferland's fans took to Twitter to express their excitement over his return and many were simply glad to see him in a good shape after a tough year. One fan tweeted, "I’ve never been happier to see the refs jump in. Glad to see Ferland out there and clearly he’s feeling fine but that’s really uncomfortable to watch. #Canucks #Wild"

Another added, "I've always wanted Ferland in Philly, but getting in a wild scrap after coming back from a BRUTAL bout with PCS is questionable. Glad he seems ok though."

Meanwhile, a few NHL fans are seen discussing Ferland's square off against Marcus Foligno of the Wild. They have noted that the altercation on the field was unnecessary, especially for Ferland as the concussion injury had kept him away from the game long enough. When one fan tweeted, "Nah man this is stupid. I love seeing Ferland back but dropping the gloves not even 2 minutes into the game, after missing most of the season with concussions, isn’t a way to stay in the league long term. I would rather him showcase his skill than fight at this point." Seconding the previous tweet another wrote, "Michael Ferland getting into a fight in the 1st minutes of tonight's game may be the new standard for stupid. His life has been hugely effected by his concussion from an meaningless early season game and now this! Ferland and hockey 'culture ' = dumb."
