LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Folk-rock star David Crosby died aged 81 after a long illness. Among various celebrities mourning him is singer Melissa Etheridge, who took to Instagram to pen a touching note for the late rock legend.
Crosby was the biological father of two of her children. "I am grieving the loss of my friend, and Bailey’s and Beckett’s biological father, David. He gave me the gift of family. I will forever be grateful to him, Django, and Jan. His music and legacy will inspire many generations to come. A true treasure," Etheridge wrote on Instagram, sharing a picture of herself with Crosby.

Crosby was the sperm donor for two of Etheridge's children with her then-partner Julie Cypher. The two children are Bailey, 25, and Beckett, who died in 2020 aged 21 after struggling with opioid addiction. While Etheridge and Cypher had Beckett in 1998 via artificial insemination, it was later revealed that Crosby was the donor.

In January 1993, Etheridge came out publicly as a lesbian at the Triangle Ball, a gay celebration of President Bill Clinton's first inauguration. She had a long-term partnership with Cypher, and the pair welcomed children Beckett and Bailey. Answering a question by editor Judy Wieder's at the time, Etheridge had said, "I think one of the many fears people have about homosexuality is around children. I think that the more gay parents raise good, strong, compassionate people, the better the world will be." The quote was published in The Advocate. Etheridge and Cypher parted ways in 2000.
Etheridge began dating actress Tammy Lynn Michaels in 2002. Michaels gave birth to fraternal twins, Johnnie Rose and Miller Steven, on October 17, 2006. They were conceived via an anonymous sperm donor. Michaels and Etheridge's marriage ended up in a divorce. Etheridge is now married to Linda Wallem.
Etheridge's son Beckett died aged 21, following which she wrote a heartbreaking note on Twitter. “Today I joined the hundreds of thousands of families who have lost loved ones to opioid addiction," she wrote, adding, "My son Beckett, who was just 21, struggled to overcome his addiction and finally succumbed to it today. He will be missed by those who loved him, his family and friends. My heart is broken.”
According to The Things, Bailey Jean Cypher sings, plays the guitar, and considers music important for her. She was reportedly told that her biological father was Crosby a few years after she was born. Bailey, who has 9,627 followers on Instagram, paid tribute to Crosby. "Rest easy Croz. Thank you for the tunes, the dimples, and the love," she wrote.
Not much is known about Johnnie Rose Etheridge and Miller Steven but it is assumed they must be in high school at present. In a shocking revelation, Tammy had said once said on her blog that she burned five-year-old Miller with a cigarette, according to the Daily Mail. She said the accident happened even though she had warned her children "you guys can't be up against me for a few minutes" while she smokes. She wrote, "One second I was watching a kid chase a dog, the next second a kid was jumping me from behind. How come i was the only one that hollered? That kid has insane pain tolerance, his tender flesh to the nicotine pencil on fire. So fast, so quick, he insisted it didn't hurt."
David Crosby's death
After Crosby's death, his widow Jan Dance said in a public statement, "It is with great sadness after a long illness, that our beloved David (Croz) Crosby has passed away. He was lovingly surrounded by his wife and soulmate Jan and son Django."
“Although he is no longer here with us, his humanity and kind soul will continue to guide and inspire us. His legacy will continue to live on through his legendary music. Peace, love, and harmony to all who knew David and those he touched. We will miss him dearly. At this time, we respectfully and kindly ask for privacy as we grieve and try to deal with our profound loss. Thank you for the love and prayers," the statement added.
