LANCASTER, CALIFORNIA: The son of late singer Aaron Carter, Princeton Carter, two, is suing the doctors who prescribed him drugs that allegedly contributed to his drowning death.

The lawsuit was filed by Melanie Martin, the mother of Aaron’s only child and his former fiancee, who claims the medical team acted negligently and without medical justification, on Princeton's behalf, TMZ reports.

The lawsuit alleges that Aaron was given Hydrocodone, Oxycodone, and Alprazolam by the doctors who knew of his “mental health and psychiatric condition.”

The lawsuit also accuses Walgreens pharmacy and others of dispensing the drugs to Aaron in excessive quantities, despite his apparent psychiatric issues.

The lawsuit seeks unspecified damages for the loss of Aaron’s life and the emotional distress caused to his son.

The 'Crush on You' singer was found dead in his bathtub on November 5, 2022, at the age of 34.

His official cause of death was ruled as drowning due to taking Xanax and huffing.

Aaron rose to fame as a teen pop star in the late 1990s and early 2000s with hits such as 'Aaron’s Party' and 'I Want Candy.'

He struggled with substance abuse and mental health issues throughout his adult life and often documented his personal troubles on social media.

Internet reacts to the lawsuit with mixed emotions

The lawsuit by Carter's son has sparked mixed reactions from the internet with the majority blaming Aaron for his own death.

“How about blame your drug addict father,” an Instagram user wrote.

“Melanie, why are you using your child for this? Sue them yourself though you were a straight-up enabler yourself so?” an X user commented.

“This makes me sick! Using Prince… for what? Of course money! Everything that Aaron and Nick went true with their parents is she going to do with Prince! Get some help Melanie and let Aaron rest in peace!” an X user said.

"For those of you who didn’t read the article, the child is two and the lawsuit was filed by his mother on his behalf,” an X user clarified.

“How and why did Aaron’s ex files a lawsuit on behalf of their son who’s not old enough to know what lawyers or lawsuits are, much less to know the circumstances behind his dad’s death? Shouldn’t she have named herself as the plaintiff?” another user questioned.
