The Duchess of Sussex’s father Thomas Markle has been admitted and receiving urgent medical treatment at a hospital in California at 9.30 pm on Monday after being transported over the border from Tijuana, Mexico, reports Page Six. According to TMZ, Markle was unable to speak to paramedics and had to write down his symptoms on a piece of paper. He was initially transported to a hospital in Tijuana, where he was pictured arriving with an oxygen mask strapped to his face. Later on, he was shifted to a hospital in Chula Vista, California.

In a statement his daughter, Samantha Markle said, "My father is recovering in hospital. "We ask for privacy for the family, for his health and wellbeing", she added. Markle has suffered two heart attacks in the past. One, during Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's wedding in 2018, forced him to pull out of attending their wedding. The 77-year-old has been suffering from health issues for a long time now. Markle had reportedly been planning to fly to the UK in June for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, with hopes to meet members of the royal family and his grandchildren. The news, first reported in MailOnline by Dan Wootton, comes after Markle spoke last month of his desire to travel to the UK for the jubilee.

Wootton revealed that he had "been aware of the stroke since morning and had agreed with both Thomas and his daughter Samantha not to report the news while he underwent further tests to establish the severity of the stroke."

Wootton also tweeted about the news and wrote, "EXCLUSIVE Meghan's father Thomas Markle has suffered a major stroke and is receiving emergency treatment in an American hospital, his daughter Samantha confirms to me in a searing and emotional statement criticizing the Duchess of Sussex."

Speaking to GB News from his home in Rosarito, Mexico, last month, Markle said: "I’m looking forward to it. I’m going to show my respect for the Queen and I’m going to make sure that the Queen understands that my entire family respects the Queen and the royals. We admire them and we want them to know that’s how we feel about them and that’s how we feel about England.”

"I would like to meet with Prince Charles and thank him for walking my daughter down the aisle, and also to meet and talk with him because I think we have a lot in common now," he added.

He further went on to say, "We've pretty much both been ghosted by our children." In the same interview, Markle also criticized Meghan and Harry for coming to the UK without their two children when they visited the Queen earlier this month.

"Not bringing the children was like another slap in the face to the Queen. It was very rude and the wrong thing to do", Markle said. "I don't know if it's Meghan or if it's Harry but the Queen should have every right to see her great-grandchildren and I should have the right to see my grandchildren. So if they show up I hope they bring the kids", he further added.

In an interview with the Daily Mail on Tuesday, May 24, Samantha Markle took a hit at her sister Meghan Markle and called her behavior "unforgivable". "My father is recovering in hospital. We ask for privacy for the family, for his health and wellbeing. He just needs peace and rest. Godspeed. We are praying. He just needs some rest", she said. Speaking to DailyMail she further said, "It's a travesty how much he's been tortured and how much he's had to go through thanks to my sister's disregard the past few years. That is unforgivable."
